@npr.org for every minute spent talking to a non-autistic person about autistic people's needs, you should be giving at least 2x that amount to actually autistic people— & not just in written stories, but on-air. Apply said rubric to any other group under attack right now for their lived realities.

I'm glad somebody out there is brave enough to push back against the "personal ChatGPT usage is terrible for the environment" message andymasley.substack.com/p/a-cheat-sh...

Great thread on the non-neutrality of science, technology, and mathematics. For more on this, go read some Melvin Kranzberg, @merbroussard.bsky.social, @histoftech.bsky.social , and issues of The Journal of @4sweb.bsky.social, @sthv.bsky.social, TechnĂŠ, and more at your local library, today! :D

I keep catching strays from "technology is neutral" people, so let's set things straight. 1) Technology is not neutral, especially the subset of technology called "algorithms" 2) The form-factor that makes a technology into a tool is not neutral 3) How tools are productized is not neutral [rant]

At the start of the Trump administration, many saw an alliance between Big Tech and the President. But 100 days in, it appears that if it is indeed a marriage, it is one of convenience and fealty, limited to certain issues and subject to potentially enormous betrayals, writes Anupam Chander.

Punchbowl covers the news from our perspective. All the rest make it Trumpcentric. Think like a consumer, journalists. Think like a citizen. Cover the news through our eyes, not Trump's.

"If you want to prompt ChatGPT 40 times, you can just stop your shower 1 second early." "If I choose not to take a flight to Europe, I save 3,500,000 ChatGPT searches. this is like stopping more than 7 people from searching ChatGPT for their entire lives."

Issues around AI are important and will become only more important which is why this meme around "LLMs are destroying the planet" is worth combating. If you start your arguments with untrue things, people will ignore you. andymasley.substack.com/p/a-cheat-sh...
Graph of total CO2 usage of particular activities in which it is clear that avoiding climate impacts of LLMs is probably not the right place to put your energy. Using ChatGPT is a dot on the graph.

These people can and must be opposed, and they can be stopped. Get loud, get persistent, whatever way you can. Believe me when I tell you that I am tired and I am scared, but there have been wins and these people Have been forced to reverse course in multiple areas. Keep pushing. However you're able

EXCELLENT by @johannaroth.bsky.social: Democracy dies in daylight. "The US is a different country. One that no longer has allies, but divides the world into strong & weak...refuses to accept rules, decency, or reason. A country dominated by cruelty, scorn, and greed." www.zeit.de/politik/ausl...

100 Tage unter Donald Trump haben die USA verändert. Die Verfassungskrise und der Unrechtsstaat, sie sind kein drohendes Szenario mehr. Sie werden gerade Wirklichkeit.

I've been thinking about how to do the Reddit experiment ethically. Seems like comparable findings could come from a controlled experiment where participants are asked to rate how persuasive arguments are. You could even use comments from public CMV posts as the control (ideally with permission).

"Preventing ChatGPT searches is a hopelessly useless lever for the climate movement to try to pull. We have so many tools at our disposal to make the climate better. Why make everyone feel guilt over something that won’t have any impact?"

Why pose the question that way? Why not: How low can it go? Trump is in a polling nosedive. Can he reverse it? www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/int...

I'll say it again: German media, led by @zeit.de, is doing a better job of covering America's fall than American journalism. Bitte Ăźbersetze es, @wegner.io
