“My couch can become a bed or…” He hesitated, glancing quickly toward the bed. “We can share a bed if you don’t mind.” Kai barely heard him. #KaiGen4

The apartment felt smaller during the “tour,” though Kai suspected it had more to do with Stefan’s nervous energy than the actual space. “Yeah, it’s pretty small,” Stefan said, as he gestured vaguely. “But I have everything I need.” #KaiGen4

The nickname slipped out naturally, and for a second, everything stilled. Stefan’s lips curved into a small smile, relief flickering across his face as he finally looked down at his own plate. They didn’t need to say anything else. #KaiGen4

He could feel Stefan watching him without even looking up, that quiet anticipation sitting between them like it used to. After a few bites, Kai glanced over, catching Stefan mid-look before he could turn away fast enough. “It’s really good, Stef.” #KaiGen4

Stefan muttered something under his breath that Kai definitely wasn’t supposed to hear. Kai bit the inside of his cheek, failing to hide the small laugh that slipped out anyway. “Stop mocking me,” Stefan shot over his shoulder, though there was no real bite to it. #KaiGen4

Upstairs, Kai settled onto one of the stools at the counter as he watched Stefan move around the kitchen like he knew exactly what he was doing—except he clearly didn’t. He cut vegetables a little bit too aggressively. The chicken nearly stuck to the pan. #KaiGen4

Kai’s body reacted before his brain could catch up, tension dissolving instantly as his shoulders dropped and a smile spread across his face like it had been waiting there all along. He leaned back just slightly into the hold, voice softer than he intended when he answered, “Hi.” #KaiGen4
