A DISCWORLD PRIMER* *or, why should I read this thing that everyone keeps going on about? Come on in, sit down, pull up a chair. If you have followup questions, feel free to ask me or @ankhmorporkcity.watch, we're always happy to help. (1/a lot, idk, we'll figure this out as we go)

(Jayden) You needed the sleep, and Pratchett is definitely worth it. He was an excellent author.

(Jayden) nothing like a little Terry Pratchett. Our first Pratchett was Witches Abroad.

Another issue with MAGA, Republicans, and evangelicals is they think imposing their religion on others will bring goodness, again despite much evidence to the contrary. "Goodness is about what you do. Not who you pray to." Terry Pratchett from Snuff

One of many issues with MAGA, Republicans and evangelicals is they think they have and know the truth, and no facts can change that. "The presence of those seeking the truth is infinitely to be preferred to the presence of those who think they’ve found it." – Terry Pratchett from Monstrous Regiment

Don't know about you but I have been waiting for a Sam Vimes essay ever since @tansyrr.bsky.social started her #Pratchett Men series - and here it is! Looking at the first three City Watch novels. Read it now for free: www.speculativeinsight.com
Purple background, white text, which says By means of several agents of change - specifically Carrot, Sybil Rankin, the Patrician (and by extension, the city of Ankh-Morpork) and finally Vimes himself - [Pratchett] ruthlessly drags Vimes up by his bootstraps, hurls him into a happy marriage, an improved lifestyle and the literal nobility. "Upwardly Mobile and Hating it" -- Tansy Rayner Roberts

Sir Terry Pratchett combined philosophy, humor, imagination, and excellent storytelling. My favorite author of all time... got me through some dark times

Ich wΓΌrde so gerne im Stil von terry pratchett was schreiben. Sowas wie "das vergissmeinnicht das die Welt rettete". Mit Magie, lustigen Katastrophen und einem Stein als Haustier πŸ« πŸ˜‚

My brain slips into the sort of tempo that time does when Sir Terry Pratchett pens one of Death’s dramatic entrances, stage left. β€œUncle Tony,” I ponder, my brief aside to the reader here is a clue on the edge of the effable. Blue notices my blank-faced stare and snaps my far-flung mind back from

Terry Pratchett "Feet of Clay"
Picture of a page of the paperback I'm reading. The character Dorfl creates an atheist oath. "I, Dorfl, pending the discovery of a deity whose existence withstands rational debate, swear by the temporary precepts of a self-derived moral system

I decided to do a little light reading this summer. So I'm listening to The Parable of The Sower by Octavia E Butler & reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, and then I looked around at what's happening....😱😱😱😱 I'm going for Terry Pratchett or Ben Aronovitch next. My nerves are shot πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜† #booksky

Silver Horde was the first Discworld book I fell in love with. I really enjoyed the Rincewind books too - but Silver Horde stuck a nerve as social commentary
