The thing is, though, neither the Sargeant Genealogy nor Bradford County book listed under "Authorities" provides any recorded proof either. Everything is just repeated hearsay. It's so frustrating! I'm sure the Rev War records at NARA were about Joseph, but I'll give them a search. Thanks, again!

He's an ‘Ashkenazi intelligence’ fetishizer though and tends to push back antisemitism in his replies (I searched his feed yesterday to try to figure this out) I suspect it's an homage to his (very minor) Jewish ancestry?

My maternal ancestors fought in the #Revolution, including one 4th great GRANDMOTHER, Nancy Crain Hill, 1766-1851, who was wounded and crippled. My paternal ancestors all arrived from Ireland beginning in 1850. #AmericanFamilyHistory #Genealogy

Happy #IndependenceDay #249. This penny postcard was sent to a boy in my husband's family in the early 1900s. His aunt wrote that she hoped he would not burn his fingers playing with sparklers! #FamilyHistory #Genealogy

@bufferingcast.bsky.social I am one of your museum-adjacent listeners, but I’m not into writing long public replies on social media, so I will just say, yes, cultural resources workers are better now than in the past about repatriating artifacts, and working respectfully with descendant populations.

Delighted to be contacted by 2nd cousins once removed via WikiTree. I'm descended from an only child of an only child, so there are no close cousins on that side of my family. Looking forward to exchanging stories and photographs. #FamilyHistory #CousinBait #WikiTree

I am very impressed with this site, and the back issues available in full. But must comment - lets continue with "an historian" - British common usage - not "a historian" which is awkward to say. #genealogy phanza.org.nz/new-zealand-...

Gary's first cousin, three times removed, was a priest: Fr. Vincent Wagner. A merchant's son, Fr. Vincent's life was dedicated to God's music.

... for בן אב בית דין ("head of the Bet Din" was the usual title of a town rabbi in Europe since early modern times). His male-line descendants continued to use this abbreviation as a sort of surname, and eventually it became one: Babad (still in use, I have many cousins Babad)

... Rabbi Yehoshua Heshel of Kraków, who seems to have added (for serious illness, presumably, as is customary) the name Avraham in his old age. Most of his (very prolific) descendants only used the paired name Yehoshua Heshel.

Of course, in Hebrew and Yiddish he was still Avraham-Yehoshua-Heshel. And his 5th generation descendants in Warsaw, AJ's parents, repeated the ‘trick’ exactly.

So, with the consent of the assembled: Abraham Joshua Heschel, as you might know, was from a very well-known Hasidic rabbinic family. This is relevant here because it makes his ancestry very easy to trace.
