Steep(ish) ground and Storm Darragh windblow tidying up in Yorkshire. Experienced team working through trying to recover as much spruce timber as possible. Had to wait for FC felling licence and breeding birds to finish but can now crack on. Restocking plans to make now already for this autumn.

Considering how the national emergency alert system went off for Storm Darragh in January, if people in Texas are getting alerts like that for non-events constantly I can also see how you'd very quickly figure out how to turn them off.

The emergency alert system was established after the Covid-19 pandemic and has already been used during real emergencies, such as Storm Darragh in 2024 and Storm Éowyn in early 2025. These alerts can be sent by emergency services and government agencies to inform people about severe weather

Storm Darragh blew down so many trees I've had to double our wood shed capacity, using old rafters and some s/h roofing. The new store is now almost full, and there's still horizontal trees to be dealt with... (no pics, I'm in a flat in Aberystwyth eating crumpets...)

You may have seen on our YouTube series 'Exmoor Woodland Diaries' with Graeme McVittie, that we've been collecting Monterey Pine cones from the fallen trees in Culvercliffe Wood near MInehead, following Storm Darragh. Tiny seedlings are starting to shoot up in our tree nursery!

Spent the last few weeks getting on top of the garden. Storm Darragh caused a lot of damage to the trees, leaving so many fallen branches that we have enough firewood to last all year.

(No) Stonefly Diary: A walk in the woods, dry, dusty where bikes have ripped up new paths since Storm Darragh tore up and threw down trees on the fences. And here is magic, a much loved hat of gossamer threads spun by the finest spinner and hung with care in the morning shafts of sunlight.

IBERS drone pilot Jason Brook has been busy. This striking image is a composite of over 360 high-resolution photos, captured to assess the impact of Storm Darragh on the NRW-managed Pwll Crwn Woods. The data is helping to inform a suitable replanting strategy as part of the woodland's recovery. 🌳

One of my favourite walks is along Afon Gorlech in Brechfa Forest, near Abergorlech. Sadly, it looks like it could be a long time until the path is open again. Huge damage throughout the forest from Storm Darragh.
Damage in Brechfa Forest from Storm Darragh earlier this year. Lots of trees fallen across the footpath.
