one exciting thing about this is that you will soon be able to create an atproto app (with real data!) comfortably within a time slot of a conference talk

well itโ€™s kind of a cheat code because @slices.network made it too easy

blueksy video uploads are temporarily broken right now; probably impacting skylight etc as well. we are working to fix the problem and expect them to be flowing soon

yes. an appview is essentially a normal app backend (i think they're changing terminology to "app server" soon). in theory an app server could listen to millions of user repositories via websocket but that doesn't scale. so a relay is an optimization to listen to miliions of repos "at once"

I think that we are broadly in agreement on direction. The waters have been muddied by Bluesky mod service not (yet) having taken advantage of the designed flexibility around interventions (eg, many planned but unused rungs on the intervention ladder). Hopefully that should clear up soon!

def need some react-native-screens PRs to land first! thereโ€™s some *very* rough edges right now, esp. with header buttons. I donโ€™t think itโ€™s really shippable yet, but theyโ€™re working on it. I also havenโ€™t figured out glass buttons yet tips and tricks blog post sounds fun :)

a couple things here: 1. you actually _can_ do this in deer (see screenshot, it's under Settings -> Deer) 2. Re: takedowns, we did discover recently we have been doing this incorrectly and intend to fix it very soon, see Paul's post bsky.app/profile/pfra...

likely! though we also want to have a series of replicas in multiple geo-regions, and that might happen sooner. both for resilience (Lots of Copies Keeps Stuff Safe) and latency

not really. this goes on protocol as soon as private records get wrapped. bookmarks are the most trivial private data case there is

here is a userland For You feed, created by an enthusiast, already doing what i'm describing โ€”ย taking Show Less into account for equivalent of `popfriends`. implemented as soon as Show Less became available. why can't Discover, which is actually developed by the bsky team, do something similar?

When you press "show less like this" we make likes of people who liked that post have less importance for you. Specifically, we disregard one like that you have in common with them. As a result you would see less content from them.

not literally but it used to be a single person working on it and when i left, there was two. i'd say it is a bit silo'd because it's a separate workstream with its own codebase, deployment, etc, that has nothing to do with the main backend (or frontend). maybe it's more integrated now!

it's tempting to push out a partial simple solution sooner... but we do already sort of have that with bsky prefs. or folks could store that kind of pref in AppViews. so it isn't a completely missing functionality. and it would be good to have fewer discrete protocol components in long run

recently Iโ€™ve been using the React Profiler more seriously and Iโ€™m quickly finding it to be a very fun and extremely satisfying kind of puzzle in related news, the drawer menu jank might be fixed soon ๐ŸŽ‰
