I'd like to thank all the native bees who did NOT sting me for no reason today. Native bees are mostly chill about humans. To the honey bee who stung me for the crime of standing on a path taking photos "Ma'am, was that really necessary?" I suppose it's an appropriate injury for #InverteFest 🌿 🐝

Green Sweat Bee!!! I had a terrible time finding bugs who would slow down enough to be identified for #InverteFest. And then I got to this patch of Golden Ragwort which was covered in pollinators!! #NativePlants #invertebrates 🌿

I was so excited about seeing the tadpoles hatching out I almost forgot I also saw a Great Blue Heron down at the creek! That only happens a couple times a year #birds 🌿

I find these water striders fascinating and this excellent video explains how they're able to walk on water. If you're not familiar with Ze Frank yet you're in for a treat! #InverteFest #invertebrates 🌿

Just 5 days ago I filmed American Toads mating at the edge of my neighborhood creek. And somehow the littlest tadpoles are hatching already! I didn't know it could happen this fast! #herps 🌿

Forbidden spaghetti! Almost all the toads have moved on from the neighborhood creek, back to their regular homes in the woods and gardens. But they left behind lots of tiny black eggs encased in a jelly-like tube. #herps 🌿

We can help our native bees (whose numbers are dropping dramatically) by planting native plants & avoiding pesticides. Here are a few native plants in Pennsylvania that feed the local bees (names in the alt text) Learn more about native plants here: www.nwf.org/Native-Plant... #NativePlants 🌿 🌱

I don't know what type of fern this is but it's the same type as the one below. It reminds me of a shrimp or a bug with those segments. Why yes, I am developing a fern obsession. Why do you ask? 🌿
