Idk what happened in the last 15 years, but I can't play games with controllers anymore. Not just because like... my hands go numb, but also because I can't seem to work my thumbs in concert anymore.

tonight is kol nidre, the start of yom kippur, the holiest day of the jewish year. for me yom kippur is a time to reflect, to hold myself and my communities accountable, to remember that i and we can always do better and that there’s nothing more noble than to admit i was wrong and try again.

According to a report in the FT, the UK Home Office is still trying to make the UK the least safe, least trustworthy place to go online.

a lil evening rum and coke plz k thx
A tall glass with vertical ridges filled with a dark brown rum and coke cocktail.

The drink appears nearly black in the upper portion and shows a rich amber-brown color where light passes through the lower half.

The glass sits on a light-colored surface with a blurred background.

how might we, the atproto community, do better at this? how much of the onus is on the community vs bluesky?

Relevant xkcd.

Here is the alt text for the image, which is an xkcd comic:
Image Description:
An xkcd comic titled "Familiarity."
Panel 1:
A stick figure with a ponytail is talking to another stick figure.
Ponytail figure: "ATPROTO is second nature to us developers, so it's easy to forget that the average person probably only knows the logic for the PDS layer and one or two app views."
Ponytail figure (in a smaller speech bubble): "Of course."
Other figure: "And how to rotate their PLC, of course."
Caption below the panel:
"EVEN WHEN THEY'RE TRYING TO COMPENSATE FOR IT, EXPERTS IN ANYTHING WILDLY OVERESTIMATE THE AVERAGE PERSON'S FAMILIARITY WITH THEIR FIELD."

Y'all is this an offer letter?
Jay πŸ¦‹ and 1 other liked your post β‹… 16m
Jay I love the vision. We need better documentation and comms from bluesky that is consumer facing, not just for developers. Ik you want this to be a community driven movement, but Bsky can do so much better to uplift and celebrate those community voices. I will do community relations for bksy!

This is one of the reasons I am so proud of, and grateful for the work done by the people who volunteer for the #NDSSSymposium Artefact Evaluation task. This is the added value on top of already cutting-edge research.

In a discussion with publishers this morning, we were reminded of this Springer Nature data showing that 19% - 66% of paper authors develop new software as part of their research, where the 19% is more or less for all fields, and the 66% is for computational science. blogs.lse.ac.uk/impactofsoci...
