We're responsible and sensible urban planners so we let a LCBO be the first thing you see when you get off the bus at a subsidized housing building.

Please go help shovel the pedestrian ramps on your corner and the bike lanes that are un-plowed. It will drop to 18° tonight and what is mush now will freeze in that state till Thursday.

This episode of 99 percent invisible on Sesame Street has been thinking a lot about (suburban) campus design and sense of belonging. Nunn's book on first generation student sense of belonging touches on campus design, too, and how it's based on a utopian/white sense of "neighborhood"

Yes, it's famously lacking in mass transit options. Which is why I spent last week there and was in a private vehicle exactly once (from the airport to Times Square, from which we took the subway the rest of the way to the place we were staying).

Good point, it is the lack of mass transit options in new york city that forces people to drive.

My family-friendly, pedestrian-heavy neighborhood with outstanding access to at least three public transit options has recently had some minor traffic calming measures installed to try to make it slightly safer and the amount of Facebook wailing about it makes me want to outlaw cars entirely.

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area. (15 in Manhattan btw)

Absolutely gutted that the viaduct collapsed. I cycled over it twice along the National Cycle Network Route 1. It was a great experience. #Cycling #Scotland #RiverSpey #Viaduct

@raeforla.bsky.social's housing proposals are far from complete. Her support for affordable housing is exemplary, but does she support expanding market rate housing and overturning exclusionary zoning, or is her anti-billionaire language about developers?

Rae Huang is challenging Karen Bass for Los Angeles mayor, calling for free public transit, more government-owned affordable housing, and creating the city’s first nonprofit public bank. She also wants to make child care more accessible, including #paidfamilyleave. 19thnews.org/2025/12/rae-...

A good listen. "An urbanist out there often uses the phrase, well it's better than nothing and I say no, it can often be much worse than nothing because it fails and then everyone says see I told you bike lanes don't work in our city and then you don't get a chance to do it right again."

NEW/LISTEN! Been REALLY looking forward to this one — my interview with Jason from #NotJustBikes IS LIVE on many podcast platforms plus YouTube! We cover a LOT of really important ground on how to ACTUALLY ACHIEVE BETTER CITIES IN REAL PRACTICE! I’m looking forward to your thoughts and comments!

This is a new “walking & cycling corridor” in Wandsworth #BurntwoodLane. Vehicle speeds will have gone up, pedestrian crossing distance have increased, and the only cycle lane along most of its length seem to be a painted white lane. WBC used up so much energy of local advocacy groups for this

Heard that a building w/3-story parking garage podium is planned for the Milwaukee/Damen/North Avenue intersection area in Chicago because the merchants and neighborhood association want to encourage suburbanites to drive to shop in the area. Blame Milw. Ave. bike lanes for cutting street parking.

If you feel like you need parking for your business, don’t open up in the urban core then complain about bike lanes. Just open in the suburbs or pay more for a dedicated lot.

Raise your hand if you’ve ridden on “bike infrastructure” where the posted speed limit was 80km or over (50 freedom units) 🙋🏻‍♂️
