Here are the recent International Traveller samples originating from China (arriving in the US and Japan). This confirms the recent dominance of the NB.1.8.1 "Nimbus" variant. 🧵

“Health officials tracking new COVID-19 variant; confusion grows over vaccine recommendations — NB.1.8.1, also known as Nimbus, is the new COVID-19 variant that’s been responsible for a surge in cases in Asia.” The only people wearing masks are ICE, and who knows whether vaccines will be available.

Impfstoffe: Bestehende Covid-19-Impfungen (Omikron-Impfstoffe) bieten weiterhin Schutz, insbesondere gegen schwere Krankheitsverläufe.

What are the symptoms of NB.1.8.1? include: Sore throat Runny nose Sneezing New or worsening cough Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Fever Chills Fatigue or weakness Muscle or body aches Loss of smell or taste Headache Abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting Death #sarscov2
What are the symptoms of NB.1.8.1?
Doctors say the symptoms of NB.1.8.1 are much the same as previous strains of COVID-19, with respiratory issues being the most typical in infected individuals.
According to Health Canada, common COVID-19 symptoms include:
Sore throat
Runny nose
Sneezing
New or worsening cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fever
Chills
Fatigue or weakness
Muscle or body aches
Loss of smell or taste
Headache
Abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting
Dr. Alon Vaisman, an infectious diseases and infection control physician at University Health Network (UHN), said this strain will present itself with upper respiratory tract symptoms similar to previous COVID-19 strains. In more severe cases, often for vulnerable populations, it will also show up as in previous strains with lower respiratory tract symptoms that could lead to pneumonia or lung inflammation.
Vaisman says those age 65 and older who are immunocompromised remain at the highest risk for the new strain. But as the risk for COVID-19 has reduced for the general public, “the overall absolute risk has dropped” for vulnerable populations, as well, over the last few years.
Some online reports have said the new variant is connected to a sore throat that feels like “razor blades.” While Razak has heard these claim, he said sore throats are not new for those who contract COVID-19 and there’s likely no “significance” to the online reports.

If you're at a rally/protest today, please consider masking in public for the next few days. The new covid variant NB 1.8.1 is highly transmissible, and if you care about your community, you don't want to spread disease before your symptoms develop if you caught it at a large gathering.

The new COVID variant NB.1.8.1 that gives you a 'razor blades' throat. They say it will become prevalent but they're not worried it will 'cause an uptick in severe disease' ― they always say that, so trust PH & governments at your peril. archive.ph/QZH30

In the Netherlands there is a bit more NB.1.8.1 than XFG lately. But the sample size is still too small to know which one is going to prevail.

For Europe (excluding the UK), the XFG.* "Stratus" variant shows a strong growth advantage of 4.7% per day (33% per week) over LP.8.1.*. That predicts a crossover in early June (the data routinely lags). 🧵
