It looks like it's a paper from Will Costello (who would I assume call himself an EPer) and Alberto Acerbi (who I think would not? He's a CultEvo person.)

I've never seen the source of psychodemography bullshit, and by extension the pseudoscience of evopsych explained quite so succinctly and clearly: p-values are a measure of the rate of false positives of all tests done by everyone, not the probability that the… replicationindex.com/2019….

Ok, so I'm only 10 minutes in Ive already seen enough to tentatively conclude this is yet another example of social science shenanigans and evopsych pseudoscience. More importantly, tho, this is a post-liberal not a leftist narrative. Postliberalism is a rightist political ideology, so this does…

The good news is that the Trump era marks the last gasp of patriarchal control as cultural evolution speeds toward adaptive, network-based coordination and cooperation. Network television, broadcasting and incompetent bullies are rapidly becoming irrelevant.

perhaps the biggest story TFPever ran was a catastrophically shoddy argument that George Floyd ackshully died of an overdose. When confronted with irrefutable evidence that the piece was simply wrong, Weiss didn’t take it down, she asked her critic, @radleybalko.bsky.social, to come on a podcast.

"Much existing writing on culture and cultural evolution has gone too far in the cultural direction, thus losing contact with the strategic and goal-directed nature of human action."

Oh man, so her idea is evopsych nonsense as the basis of standpoint epistemology? I am now very confident her claim is false.

"The Secret of Our Success" by @joehenrich.bsky.social. This book explains how intwined human genetic and cultural evolution is, and explains how we've domesticated ourselves so that we can be more cooperative with individuals who are not our genetic relatives.

Maybe in a perfect world. But like it or not, evopsych guys call their field evolutionary psychology & that's how everyone refers to it. I think we are stuck drawing distinctions between scientific evolutionary neurobiology or physical anthro research & the pseudoscientific evopsych program.

April is still out there digging, but today her research focuses on reconstructing the lives and contributions of Ice Age kids and teenagers to human cultural evolution with recent publications on children making ceramics and on how teens experienced puberty in the Upper Paleolithic.

Haven't read it in a while, I think it emphasizes more how IP is antagonistic to organic cultural evolution and natural social communicative memetic evolution rather than the toxic economics of the industry, but still good stuff.

We the People need to put a stop to this surveillance police state ASAP! Overthrow the fascist oligarchy, and repurpose their data centers in ways that actually help real progress and cultural evolution. Apply all quantum computing power to realize the molecular replicator NOW!

I think often about the Amazon engineer who wrote in an open letter to the company that Ring was “incompatible” with a free society.

Its weird, after reading that last article in Aeon by Manvir Singh i did not think that my opinion of him (or the field if anthropology for that matter) was likely to get lower. This question begging apologia for evopsych nonsense showed me how wrong i was.

I am not sure we have good ideas of what this actually means until we have robots with cultural evolution and can study it. Yet, it is on these things we use standardization and statistical methods. A lot of life quality improvements happen from these systems getting better.

More work on the Cultural Evolution Game today. The new version is going to be more streamlined. Instead of a set of "tech tracks" and a set of specific developments spaced out on those, there's going to be a list of "cultural capabilities" that are arranged in a tree structure. (1/4) #gamedesign
