That land child, it will Take and Twist and Turn you into something oh so cold. [OC - Petrichor - Curse of Strahd 5e/homebrew]
A collection of three drawings in a stylised thin-line style. The main, vertical image, shows a scruffy brown haired half-elf, wearing a dark victorian style cloak, white neck scarf and a medical bag over his shoulder. He's idly wrnging his hands that bare splatters of blood on them, looking into space with a frown. Int he background, there is an insinuation of a medieval town (Vallachi) and a large full moon with bats flying past it. The bottom of this drawing shows a decorative text, set into the silloutette of the cloak spelling out "Petrichor" - the character's name. The drawing is bathed in sickly shades of green, with red accents int he lines and bloody hands.
On the left side of the page, there are two more sketches of the same character, only in lines and no color. One shows him with wet rain-soaked hair lookign over his shoulder with a sad and exhausted expression. The third sketch shows him looking up through his lashes, with head bowed and an expression that could be read a dire, or even slightly angry.

All I'm saying is when you're right in the middle of trying to finagle some heavy, fragile bit of treasure over a pit trap via a cunning system of improvised pulleys and 3d6 random goblins come rocking up, you will understand why Charisma is not a dump stat in OD&D.

Probably out of order that I’m posting my first D&D character but specifically a version from a one shot set 15 years in the future. But oh well, look at my smart and traumatized magic boy all grown up 🪄🐉 #dndart #wizard #elf #oc #art #digitalart #csp #dragon
Grayson Sylvaire, a half-elven wizard dressed in a long coat, and 3 piece suit in shades of gray and mint green with fine jewelry. A crystal ball floats above his right hand while he holds an intricately carved gold staff in his left. Perched on his shoulder is Flick, his pet pseudodragon. Grayson stands amongst towering shelves of books and ledgers.

I've managed to compromise and drag 5e toward what I want from it, but that's because one of my genuine joys as a game designer is taking a system that doesn't do a thing well and making it do that thing to see how it feels. (I ran a DBZ-style game with blue book only New World of Darkness, once.)

Oh, and so long as I'm here: Hefty OSR games are generally superior to mainline D&D not because the rules are improved (sometimes they are), but because they almost always convey to you through the text a playstyle within which they function well. Mainline D&D wants to be too many things to do so.

I'm looking for 1-2 people who have played through Act 3 of BG3 & also play D&D for a one shot this Friday at 7pm CST! Marginalized voices will be my preference for this! Comment below if you're interested!

I think 5e does do certain things very well, but there's other design decisions that just baffle me.

My biggest frustration with 5e is that it's pulling in every direction. I think you can have a very broad system and not everything needs a narrow focus, but you can't have "attrition matters" and "attrition doesn't matter" at the same time, for instance.

Yeah, it’s more that the specific idiosyncrasies of Wizardry (how classes and leveling work, differences in monsters from the D&D monster manual like kobolds being dogs and mimics living in chests instead of being chests, etc) became the cultural reference for “what western RPGs are” in Japan

I've been running a Tales of the Valiant game with the Bense adventures, and I really appreciate this setting. It manages to scratch that Norse fantasy itch but does so in a way that still feels very traditionally "D&D" but also not the same as other Norse inspired settings or adventures.

Due to Circumstances™, we ran a 3rd Fabula Ultima session. This was my first attempt at playing with the system's combat design mechanics and boss mechanics It's way easier than figuring out Challenge Rating in 5e because you understand what's "easy" and "hard" and it gets you into homebrewing

Ran a rare back-to-back for a new game system! Plans fell through, gained a player, got to pick things up while doing another introduction. 4 for 4 on getting strong, enthusiastic player responses! I have very discerning players who know what they like. Did not expect Fabula Ultima to land a crit.

24) NOT ANOTHER D&D PODCAST: TWILIGHT SANCTORUM [2023] this does the same sort of thing campaign 3 did where it also takes place in bahumia, albeit far enough before campaign 1 that it's not immediately obvious. i like the grandfather/father/son dynamic they have going, and emily is a fantastic dm

Congrats on 200 and thank you for hosting! I go by Java ☕ I do digital and traditional art (Mostly digital lately). I love to draw D&D characters and fan art for digital, and traditional I usually do flowers and birbs.
A digital pencil drawing of a male tiefling (half fiend) character. He has horns that curve back from his forehead to above the back of his head. The sides of his head are shaved, with his hair kept long between his two horns. His visible ear is pointed in an elf-like shape, with three piercings (Lobe, conch, and an industrial). His expression is angry, with bared fangs. His eyes are solid black, with a light ring for the pupils. He has a shadowy tendril tattoo climbing from his back up along his neck, and he has a lip piercing in the middle of his bottom lip.
Illustration of a purple tiefling (Half fiend) female character wearing a mask and eye patch, along with an eye amulet of the god Vecna from Dungeons and Dragons.
Colored pencil drawing of a white skull growing out of a large red rose, drawn on toned gray paper.
Drawing of a baby mothman. He is round and fluffy, with large feather like antennae and very large round red eyes. His wings are tucked behind him, they are black with rounded edges and large red circle details.

this is something that fascinates me about d&d and other Tolkien inspired fantasy. elves and hobbits and men are magical irreligeous, but we associate the church with the middle ages, so people keep putting churches in their fantasy and it's always super weird if you think about it.

Considering what a devout Catholic he was, it's always been so interesting to me that LoTR has no real religion. The elves are the closest but since they actually know the Valar are real rather than an idea, it's a little different. And there's no churches or anything like that anywhere.
