Tall trees in a small clearing. The forest floor is covered in ivy & moss with some rich red dirt. Thick forest lives beyond this frame. The waning sunlight is kissing the tree trunks illuminating their texture

hoping to revive my mother’s severely over-watered orchid. i told her how to properly water it and she said “that sounds complicated, i thought orchids were supposed to be easy. yeah, you thought raising a kid would be easy too… anyway, what the poor orchid looked like unpotted
Orchid roots, most of which are very yellow and dead after being potted exclusively in moss for about a month and a half.

Moss regrowth at different depths in the core.
(A) Site of new growth emerging from existing gametophytes on the fresh-cut face of the core at 110 cm depth (arrow). (B) Extensive regrowth of Chorisodontium aciphyllum from the basal section of the core at 121–138 cm depth. (C) Regrowth from the basal section of the core, showing preserved brown rhizoids (thick arrow) and new protonemal growth (thin arrow). (D) New shoots of the liverwort Cephaloziella sp. Hanachozu, the traditional Japanese practice of decorating shrine or temple water basins with seasonal flowers. The basin, known as a chozubachi, is filled with vibrant blue and purple hydrangea flowers and Japanese maple leaves. A hishaku (bamboo ladle) rests across the mossy stone basin.
the beautiful contemporary Japanese practice of hanachōzu —the custom of floating seasonal blossoms in temple or shrine purification basins. The composition utilizes an intimate, high-angle overhead perspective focusing on a rustic stone water basin (chōzubachi) carved out of a massive boulder.

The circular, water-filled core of the basin shelters two dense clusters of early-summer hydrangeas (ajisai). On the right floats a large, voluminous head of rich, cobalt-blue blossoms with delicate violet undertones, its petals catching a crisp glint of natural light. Balanced on the lower left is a second, slightly smaller hydrangea cluster rendered in a soft, pale lavender-pink hue. Submerged just beneath these floating globes is a delicate scatter of star-shaped Japanese maple leaves (momiji), their bright green lobes introducing a wonderful graphic sharpness to the liquid depths.

Framing the top of the water basin are the traditional tools of Shinto and Buddhist purification ritual (temizu), arranged with clean, geometric precision. Resting horizontally across the stone lip are two straight, vibrant green bamboo poles bound securely on the right by a thick, black-cord knot. Atop these rails rests a beautifully crafted wooden ladle (hishaku), its circular, light-wood cup positioned upside down with its slender handle angled sharply down toward the lower-right margin. Emerging dynamically from the upper-left corner is a diagonally cut bamboo pipe (kakehi), which trickles a slow stream of fresh water into the reservoir below.

The heavy, structural perimeter of the chōzubachi grounds the delicate floral arrangement with a profound sense of antiquity. The rough-hewn stone surface is heavily blanketed in a thick, velvety carpet of emerald-green moss, suggesting a sacred grove setting untouched by the passage of time.

#RockinTuesday 🤘🗿🪨 I spotted this rock at the VA Medical Center in Johnson City, TN while walking around in the park. The moss and lichen on this rock create such interesting natural patterns. I think the rock looks like it might be smiling. #Photography #rock #moss #lichen #NaturePhotography

For today's ALT #BirdOfTheDay theme @robcrank68.bsky.social has chose #Robins , which should all be tagged with #ForJanet. Here goes one of my favourite pictures I've taken so far, back in 2024 when I went to Canada. This was right outside the Canadian Niagara Falls.
Picture of a Red Robin sat on a small branch of a tree. The Bird is looking to the left.
Some moss is visible on the branches in the background, as well as some tiny fruits hanging from the tree.

Micro pond, quarry lip, Lancashire. Stone, driftwood, ferns. Great pond snails, water boatmen, frogs on site. It's been here eight months. #micropond #wildlifepond #lancashire
Overhead view of a small wildlife pond edged with moss-covered sandstone rocks and driftwood branches. Bright green ferns and a copper tiered bird bath surround it. A dry stone wall forms the back edge, beyond which woodland trees rise. The pond sits on the lip of a quarry drop. Lancashire.

The Cirl bunting is mostly a resident bird; unlike many other birds, it stays in the same area throughout the year instead of migrating long distances.
The male sings a repetitive metallic trill from trees, bushes, fences, or power lines to defend its territory and attract a mate.
The female builds the nest by herself. The nest is usually hidden in a bush or low tree and is made from grass, roots, moss, and hair.

Thank you! 💛
A woodland garden surrounds a low moss-covered stone wall. Delicate white umbel flowers rise above dense green foliage, including clusters of variegated cream-and-green leaves in the foreground. Taller leafy plants form a lush backdrop, while dappled shade and a dark stand of trees create depth and a peaceful, natural atmosphere.

Candles in a cathedral hush—throat-close, breath held like a promise. Exhale. It won’t fix everything; it’ll keep a soft frame around your days. Your inner glow climbs—shimmering—until the pulse loosens. Let it rest. ✨
symmetrical, extreme macro bioluminescent fungal spores in candle-warm haze; velvet glow forms an impossible brief face-shape, then the glow-moss pulse-fades one beat before completion, as if the timeline almost locks, then loosens—shimmer soft. symmetrical doorway of mycelium arches, light threads orbit, endless loop. wide luminous dust-soil cathedral in the background, mirrored mist, radiant backlight breathing; LET THE TIMELINE REST etched in glow-moss, pulse-fade loop matches start. underwater long-exposure bioluminescent fungi-like threads weaving through a half-built cathedral frame, volumetric halos, stabilized bloom that never quite fully resolves.
