Is the word "priors" (as in "reevaluate your priors") something that grew in use in the last year or two, or do I just not read smart enough things to have heard it before?โ€ฆ

โ€œI want to be very clear: This is not going to happen.โ€ At a press briefing on Friday, David Becker, a longtime voting rights advocate, threw a bucket of ice water on fears that the Trump administration might send federal troops or ICE agents to polling places.
ICE at the polls? Ain't never gonna happen, says this voting expert

Some of you people who publish blogs, really should stop blocking Tor All it tells your readers is that you don't know how to run a website properly And if you can't run a site properly why should I trust anything you have to say?

But yeah, this is one of the perils of these quick-and-dirty machine translations: they risk stopping actual knowledgeable translators and localizers from doing what they do best. Either from being demoralized by what they see happening or cause they think oh, one's already being worked on.

I think the key is that they're doing a localization, which the GenAI-assisted one that made a splash yesterday and I ended up giving a heads-up is not. Which is why so much jumbled garbage text made it into it and the wrong terms for stuff.

I've got some good news about Shadowrun Mega/Sega CD and fan English translations: another one is in the works with some chops behind it in knowing Japanese and the world and lingo of Shadowrun. I reached out to the person that someone in my post yesterday mentioned had already been doing one.
A snap of a post on retrogametalk forum from Agitprop, working on translating and localizing a 60hz NTSC-J release.

"Well, fuck.. I've been working on the same game (though, using NTSC-J, so.. it wouldn't have this slow down). Started it a while back, stopped when I found someone else was working on it, then started when that person said their programmer quit. Didn't know anyone else was working on this...

Tested it on real hardware too"

Hi! Can I just ask if your WIP translation uses any kind of Genai (claude, chatgpt etc) for code or JP-Eng?

This translation is human, which is why it's going to take as long as it takes. My friend is a teacher who's worked in Japan for many years as a tutor (do not do that job. The stories she has are a nightmare). I'm going to be doing localization for the setting (all the Shadowrun slang) so if ya'll don't like that, blame me, not her ๐Ÿ˜‚

Heh, niceโ€ฆ
On John Gruber's Daring Fireball blog:

"On the name of Apple's foldable iPhone"

I have no inside knowledge about what Apple plans to name this device, but Iโ€™ll eat my proverbial hat if they name it โ€œiPhone Foldโ€. That name is so dumb itโ€™s what Samsung calls their foldables. You donโ€™t name a device for what it does, you name it for what it connotes. A good name conveys feeling, not just function. โ€œiPhone Ultraโ€ or โ€œiPhone Maxโ€ would both work, and Ultra sounds more luxe. So while unsurprising, thatโ€™s probably the best bet, even without the reliable word of Mr. Digital Chat Station.

But if you want my take on a wildcard name, one with some history, how about โ€œiPhone Duoโ€?
