Though they couldn’t make out what the person on the other end was saying, Inarora could sense Grandpa’s frustration grow more. His aura flickered like flames Inarora’s breath caught in their throat. All hope was sucked out of them and it left them with a hollowness in their heart. Oh no…that isn’t a good sign. Grandpa reached down and stroked Inarora’s hair.

Chapter 2 of Cookies and Rage: A Kali-ling Novel.

I (Astrid) started to heal him and stopped when I found a piece of flint lodged in his forehead. I didn’t remember it being in the snow I packed, but it must have been. I lifted his cap enough to see it and stopped. Blood slipped down the side of his forehead from the wound.
“Shit, shit, shit,” I repeated as I gently set one shaking hand over the wound. My blue energy encased his head. I focused on the flint and closed my eyes. I loosened the flint and healed the injury underneath to help push it further forward. His breathing changed as I worked it out, but I didn’t open my eyes. My head throbbed reminding me that I hadn’t slept last night, and now I was expending a lot of power, between the storm, the healing, and pulling the flint out.
