I remember a video we watched in school with Isaiah Thomas saying that you have a better chance of traversing the jungle without a mosquito bite than making the NBA.

i guess spearheading the decision to overcompensate the nets in the kevin durant trade qualifies as "getting out of the way." who knew.

RUH ROH

According to another source, Ishbia emailed the Suns basketball operations team internally on Wednesday, taking accountability for not doing enough to establish a culture and identity in Phoenix. The Suns owner stated that he tried “running the typical NBA owner playbook” of “hiring experts, signing checks and getting out of the way,” but no one was happy with the outcome.

Now, despite insisting that he is not reviewing film, designing offenses or running the draft room, Ishbia intends to be “extremely active in the decisions and management. He acknowledged his more unconventional approach as an owner io to ensure the Suns get back to the requisite level of winning that’s been absent the last few years.

Did Ishbia buy the suns just to turn them into the Michigan State pro team? Does literally every hire now have to have an affiliation with that school?

Jordan Ott is certainly qualified to be a head coach. The Michigan State thing is going to continue to be a thing, but like Brian Gregory, Suns fans will just have to hope he acquits himself on the job and that the proof is in his body of work

FROM SHAMS: After a comprehensive, four-round search that included over 15 candidates, the Suns' ownership and front office aligned on Ott, who joined Coach of the Year Kenny Atkinson's staff last summer and played a key coaching role on the East-best 64-win Cavaliers this season.

FROM SHAMS: Just In: The Phoenix Suns are hiring Cleveland Cavaliers assistant Jordan Ott as the franchise's new head coach, sources tell ESPN. Ott has been an NBA assistant since 2012 and has a strong background of offensive and defensive creativity, player development and communication.

Kevin Durant Giving up real assets for a guy who will be 37 this season and will be looking for a very rich extension seems like bad business. That's before you get at his almost complete lack of team success since leaving the Warriors. He doesn't remotely match the timeline of the rest of the team

Knicks firing Thibs is reminiscent of the Suns with Monty. Built their respective teams up from trash into contenders. Flawed or plateaued perhaps and seeking a new voice to take the next step. Be careful what you wish for.

It's kinda funny that there's a very tall basketball player called Kevin Durant who played for the Oklahoma City Thunder, and a very tall actor named Kevin Durand who comes from a place called Thunder Bay.

This game also lead to Larry Bird giving an interview about maybe not having players with heart to stop the Lakers from running up and down the floor. Then in game 4, Kevin McHale clotheslines Kurt Rambis on a fast break. That was the series turning point.

Suns, bucks, and 76ers all fired their head coaches a few years ago and then all proceeded to get worse in the seasons that followed

Same but I’m being mostly serious. The knicks were a near cellar team pre-thibs. Mello forced out their best coach since the 90’s. Isaiah Thomas. Need I say more? Larry brown feuding with basically everybody and having to sue the team for not paying him Dolan’s fingerprints everywhere.

One argument representing this year’s Finals teams is great teams don’t overreact. They win and fill in the margins. OKC with Hart, Caruso Pacers getting Mathurin back, acquiring Bryant. I remember with 90s Suns that every offseason was tumultuous. No continuity.

Josh Hart is the 4th player this century with multiple double-doubles off the bench in a conference finals series. J.R. Smith did so for Cleveland in 2015. In the 2010 WCF, Channing Frye had 2 double-doubles off the bench and Lamar Odom had 4. Roy Tarpley did 4x too in 1988.
