I think she was fighting injury for much of this season. When she’s healthy, she can be a difference-maker. She’s well-loved in Toronto. I hope she has lots of success in Vancouver.

RJ gets to play with DeMar, his idol, in Milwaukee! Generational Toronto basketball history in the city that Toronto stole Giannis and the 2019 title from!

1. I'm turning 40 this week. 2. A dog on my street who was almost the same age as Walter died. If LeBron suddenly retires, all bets are off for a generational spiral.

Lauri Markkanen After a disappointing lottery, the Jazz are surely going to tank once again next year, and that will be hard to do with Markkanen around. Look for them to cash in for picks. I don't think the fit is good for the Raptors.

Jamal Murray Could the Nuggets have tired of Murray's constant health struggles? I would not welcome this trade for this exact reason. While we could definitely use his microwave scoring, I have trouble believing that he can be healthy and reliable enough to make a difference up north.

Trae Young If ATL decides it wants to move on from Trae, they will look to maximize his value in trade. I have a hard time imagining that considering his popularity, but stranger things have happened. IQ would almost certainly be sent out; Would this make the Raptors dramatically better?

Kristaps Porzingis The Celtics may want to trim payroll as they face a season without Tatum. They would probably prefer to trade Jrue Holliday, but Porzingis would fit better with the Raptors. This would also allow them to move on from Jakob and dramatically improve their spacing.

Jarrett Allen The Cavs may wish to shake things up in the wake of their disappointing playoff exit. Allen is perhaps most likely to be traded. Acquiring Allen would allow the Raptors to move on from Jakob in another deal. Allen is awesome. The price matters, but he would be a real upgrade.

just left him off. I think the fit issues with Scottie and my general concern that he doesn't have a position defensively make him a pretty tough sell. talked about it near the end.

Otherwise, acknowledge what Raptors fans generally know - we had a great group of Robins but no Batman. No one should be surprised to see them finding success, as all of them have a ring from playing with a Batman!

Put in another way, I would like any pundit currently claiming that the Raptors should have kept their 2019 core together to point to similar claims from 2-3 years ago.

They did better cashing in OG and Pascal, as they now have BI, RJ, IQ, Agbaji, Walter and Mogbo in their place. Is that group as good as Pascal and OG? Probably not. It is not terrible either, considering that star trades are not usually congruent.

The fair critique of the Raptors is that they did not cash in on the value of these players in a way that would soften their rebuild when it was obvious that the group was not particularly competitive. They have almost nothing to show for the departures of Lowry, Norm and Fred.

Rather, I am not impressed with the analysis that the Raptors erred in not keeping this group together. It is surprising because some of the pundits I respect the most are expressing this.

Look, I am really happy that these former Raptors are doing so well. It is fun to root for the Pacers and see Pascal get the respect and admiration he fully deserves. I don't mean to throw shade at any of them. Really, I don't!!!

2024-25 Salaries $45.5M Pascal $42.8M Fred $36.7M OG $19.2M Norm $19.5M Jakob $10.1M Scottie We're $5M below the 1st Apron for 6 players on a team that won 41 and 27 games in the previous two seasons. Retaining this group would have been malpractice.

Full transparency: I absolutely LOVE the Hoop Collective and Zach, but... ...there is some monumental revisionist history going on here. The Raptors were roundly mocked for holding on to their 2019 core for too long. The HC podcast certainly did, and IMO that criticism was entirely justified.

Recently, the Raptors were mocked by the Tims on The Hoop Collective, incredulous that the team didn't just lock these guys up. Zach Lowe didn't go quite that far but referenced complicated feelings for Toronto fans. @timbontemps.bsky.social @bannedmacmahon.bsky.social @zachlowenba.bsky.social

One thing I have heard widely is how hard it must be for Raptors fans during these playoffs. More specifically, with all these guys succeeding, we must be wondering why the team is not still together.

How about some Raptors content while we wait for the NBA Finals to begin? The Raptors have been mentioned throughout the playoffs this year as several of the 2019 championship players have made an impact, specifically Pascal Siakam, OG Anunoby, Fred Vanvleet and Norm Powell. A thread...

Trust me, if we’re serious about Giannis, anyone BUT Scottie should be worried about dealt. Barnes isn’t going anywhere.

Back in 2020-21, the Raptors gave Alex Len slightly more than the minimum, to the dollar point at which he helped make a theoretical Giannis trade work, cap-wise.

my most offseason nba take: the toronto raptors should be an all-canadian superteam. everyone’s interests would be best served by this, i think.
