๐Ÿ”ŠPaper out today with @nature.com! Despite decreasing emissions ๐ŸŒ mercury levels are rising in some species. Hg Isotopes could reveal why. Small webpage for an ongoing #bioacoustic monitoring project I am part of at Stora Karlsรถ: auklab-audio.github.io Adding #audio will hopefully let us learn more about the life of the Guillemots. What are they saying? Lesson learned: designing a recording setup is a challenge and lots of fun! ๐Ÿ”Š

heads up female birdsong fans, @alperyelimlies.bsky.social et. al study its function in Galรกpagos yellow warblers with playbacks ๐Ÿค” the pair that plays(back) together stays together? Ok that was a reach for a bad pun, you should read this thread instead ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿงต #prattle ๐Ÿ’ฌ #bioacoustics

Excited to share our new preprint! Unlike the North American yellow warblers, females in Galรกpagos commonly sing and duet with their paired partners. Here, we tested possible functions with a playback experiment: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Illustration of female and male yellow warblers and their respective songs. On top, two duets are shown in spectrograms with male parts marked in red and female parts marked in yellow. On the left are three female songs and on the right are three different male songs. Illustrations are courtesy of Lena Gies.
