Pra muito crítico, parece que anime só existe como uma fonte de inspiração e não uma mídia que é digna de análise própria de acordo com seus próprios termos e linguagem cinematográfica. mas meu chute é que admitir isso é assinar que precisa validar algo que não veio embalado dos EUA/Europa.

Porque é foda saber que Matrix pegou muito da sua estética de Ghost in the Shell, que filmes como Inception e Réquiem por um sonho puxam coisa da filmografia do Satoshi Kon, entre outros exemplos, mas de repente fazer crítica e análise séria de anime soa ridículo pra quem gosta de cinema.

Olhando a conversa sobre o Satoshi Kon/Aronofsky/perfect blue/etc, o ponto todo do debate não é nem que "Tá errado" usar referência de anime em hollywood, que é algo que rola há décadas por vários criadores e não é exclusivo dos EUA ou do cinema, mas sim de como anime é apagado da história.
