X-like genres aren't a big issue in game dev because we're more granular when we talk about learning from other games, but they definitely constrain marketing and serve as shibboleths in the gaming community. Consider the term "roguelike", then compare Rogue to Hades II. The problem is obvious.

Game devs, Do you feel the habit of short handing games (x-like labeling) has hampered innovation by focusing on individual mechanics instead of holistic design? If yes, is this a push from non-creatives in higher positions or is it individually problematic at the dev level as well? Both?

I will say, after doing so much sound design for horror, working on an action game has been a really interesting learning experience. It’s less about the atmosphere/aesthetic and more about how the sounds support the gameplay. Of course it’s always true but changes the ratio of importance I guess

All in all I'm amazed at how well this game runs on Linux from day one. Yes, it has some traversal stutter and some shader compiling stutter, but that hardly matters, as it usually never happens during fights or story sequences. Congrats to Konami and Neobards for doing a good job on the PC port!

Rolled credits on Silent Hill f. Incredible game. It does have some differences from the usual Silent Hill stuff (mainly the location set in Japan, the time set during the 60s and the battle system actually being really good), so it's safe to say that "Silent Hill is back, baby!"

Yesterday was my city's Pride March
Selfie of myself wearing a black crop top with a wide triangular hole above the cleavage, criss-cross bands underneath the breasts, and long sleeves; a black rain jacket, pink / purple / blue triangular earrings, a black penal cross, and a bunch of pink, purple and blue badges above my left breast. I'm also wearing makeup: neon pink eyeshadow, and a pink triangle spanning from the right side of the forehead, over the right eye, to the right cheek

The homestuck pilot was really good! I think opinions will be mixed but, as for me, I think if they do a series with full length episodes it has potential to be AMAZING. The style is overall what carries the thing, and that's probably for the best since it has to look COOL
