Current break time read: The End of the World As We Know It. I picked this up a couple months ago, then kind of felt like re-reading The Stand first. This week the lone bright spot at work is reading short vignettes about people dying in a plague. #Horrorsky #Booksky
Hardcover copy of The End of the World As We Know It, New Tales of Stephen King’s The Stand. The cover is pretty much just that text and a painting of a crow head with red eyes in the bottom right corner.

A copperplate engraving depicting different models of the universe including the Ptolemaic model, Copernicus's heliocentric model, Tycho Brahe’s geoheliocentric, and Descartes SystΓ¨me des Tourbillons (center). From my copy of a 1761 French textbook by Lenglet Du Fresnoy. πŸ“šπŸ’™
A book opened to a still bound fold out diagram with two solar system models on the left and two on the right and a central diagram with Descartes'
vortices. The descriptions are in French and it's labeled LES SYSTÊME DU MONDE at the top.

In case you missed it, there is in fact still time to grab the end-of-year indie fantasy mega bundle from itch-io! 64 books by 64 awesome indie authors, what's not to like? The meme summarises it pretty well I think. itch.io/b/3409/end-o... #BookSky πŸ©΅πŸ“š πŸ“’πŸ“š πŸ“¦πŸ“š
A remix of the Drake meme where he rejects one thing but approves of another. Rejection image is captioned "buying a bunch of ebooks separately to read over the holidays" while the approving image is captioned "buying the itch.io indie fantasy bundle so you can have 64 books at once". A scaled down, green-themed graphic for the bundle, featuring a silhouette of a man and a dragon, has been photoshopped on top.

American author Anne Rice died #OTD in 2021. One of the best-selling authors of all time, she permanently changed what a vampire was allowed to be with The Vampire Chronicles. #gothic #fiction #booksky
Portrait of author Anne Rice with shoulder-length silver-gray hair and bangs, wearing a black turtleneck and a sparkling multi-strand necklace, smiling gently at the camera. To her right are the covers of two of her famous novels: "Interview with the Vampire" in gothic red and gold lettering on a cream background, and "The Vampire Lestat" with a stylized white and gold design featuring an Egyptian-inspired figure.

Mail time. I've finally taken the plunge & got myself a Brandon Sanderson #novel. I figured a stand-alone was the best starting point & Tress of the Emerald Sea is highly recommended. Will be high on my TBR for next year #Booksky πŸ“šπŸ’™ #books #reading #fantasy #paperbacks #bookshelves

Oh happy days. 5 bookies waiting for me on the reserve shelf at the library. Yes, they are bookies, not books. As I've waited for some of these for a long time, and the excitement is real. πŸ“šπŸ’™

And this is why libraries are so good. I am the first to borrow these 4 books. Sure, I may have had two of them on reserve for about 12 months since I first read pre release reviews. But buying these books at a non Amazon store would cost me around $145. And I don't have the space here either. πŸ’™πŸ“š

A glass with clear liquid on top of a bar. In the background, two people are on stage… one playing keyboard and one singing.
Book cover of Love Is A Contact Sport features two Black men in an embrace. The taller one has light brown skin, bald, and a well-kept beard, and is wearing a turquoise and white college letter jacket. The shorter one has dark brown skin, short twists and a fade haircut, red glasses, and is wearing a yellow sweatshirt with the words Black Romance Writer on it with a small rainbow.

The Selection by Kiera Cass
Listened to audiobook
4/5 stars
Prince Maxon is looking for a princess using the Selection. This gives 35 girls the chance to live at the castle & get to know the prince until he decides who should be his bride. Oh and it’s also televised to the whole country. America Singer is one of the 35 chosen, however she doesn’t want the crown. She wants to stay home with her secret love Aspen. As she goes through the Selection, America starts to question what she thought she wanted for her life.

I went into this knowing this series was super popular back in the day & I wanted to see what the hype was about. Let me tell you I wasn’t disappointed. This is exactly the type of book I think I’d enjoy if I read it during its prime. I’d categorize this book as a potato chip book. It’s not a gourmet meal but it tastes good!!

I’m a big fan of the relationship that develops between America & Maxon. It felt natural & reminded me of the early stages when I met my husband. It was a breath of fresh air from the insta love I’m so used to seeing.

I was surprised I liked it as much as I did since I don’t really like the Bachelor. As soon as people told me it was like that I immediately was worried I signed myself up for something I’d hate. This ended up being a nice light read full of teen angst & made the tasks I was working on while listening to it bearable.

I wish the world details was a little fleshed out more. As I was listening to the audiobook I’d be trying to picture everything then one line would occur & shift my whole perspective. I understand the world was supposed to be a dystopian future America, but I really didn’t find myself connected to the world & was more focused on the characters.

Speaking of the audiobook, the narrator did a good job & I enjoyed listening to the story from her.

🚨 AUTHORS AND WRITERS 🚨 πŸ“šπŸ’™ The #1 rule of #booksky is that your self promotional posts may not outnumber your other posts to the feed and almost all of you are in violation of this rule! I get so many complaints about this - it's ruining the feeds and driving everyone's sales down too.
