November reads 5/9 πŸ’™πŸ“š #booksky Brom - Slewfoot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ That was so good! A story of historical fiction set in a Puritan village of Conneticut, you know you will get religious fanaticism, misogyny and straight up toxic group dynamics - and boy oh boy do you get it all.
The cover of the book Slewfoot showing a young girl sitting on a broom in front of the moon. Her feet are hoofs, she is holding a goat skull

β€œAnd I am left in the quiet…” I whisper. The sibilance of the Conceit chains neatly into any of the Elven language incantations that I have memorised, and I choose The Silent Chamber. The energising, meditative pumping of my blood as the magic takes effect, metronomic in its consistency, will allow me to focus on preparing something bigger and more active to immobilise her. I hope I can do so before she reaches her crescendo. The final lines of the Crimson Overture are legendary for their destructive power. I need to throw her off before she gets that far. β€œGekuro, can you hear me?” I utter under my breath. It’s not an incantation, just a simple plea to the mountain that I have been studying for weeks. β€œLend me your weight.”

Review: Just finished "The September House" by Carissa Orlando. It’s darkly funny, surprisingly heartfelt, and full of eerie little details that keep you turning pages. The story balances genuine chills with a deeply human core and is a clever twist on the haunted‑house genre. Recommended. 4* πŸ“šπŸ’™

The Princess Bride by William Goldman, 3.75 stars. Of course, I knew the story and enjoyed that some of the movie dialogue was started here but I found the pacing to be off. One chapter was almost 100 pages! I did enjoy the meta-commentary though so that was fun. #booksky

"Luther bowed deep, driving the chains into his skin. Rivulets of red drew godly patterns on his chest, his belly, his arms. Something tore at him, at his heart, at the bindings lacing his ribs."

I heard the bells on Christmas Day Their old, familiar carols play, And wild and sweet The words repeat Of peace on earth, good-will to men! – 'Christmas Bells' by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, 1864 #poetry #booksky #Christmas
'Christmas Eve' by John Ferguson Weir, circa 1865.

A large bell hangs inside a stone tower. Small human-like figures, similar to fairies, climb the walls, gather around the bell rope, and move toward an arched opening. Ivy grows on parts of the stone, and a full moon is visible through the opening behind the bell.
