More tests! Benson Instant Box Cam, paper negative inverted digitally (left) and (irl) positive print via the built in copy stand (right). Need to readjust the stand registration. Trying to get the workflow nailed down so I can do some “real” shooting next weekend.😅 #BelieveInFilm #AfghanBoxCam

… but then weirdly continued to be a thing, with all these wild home made cameras until very recently. They are now most well known as “Afghan Box Cameras” because of some of the awesome work like that link I sent, but can also be found with other sort of siloed terms/groups using them:

Best #InstantBoxCam test yet, to go with a new haircut. Shot by my daughter in the evening light. Wide open, f4.5, 1s, rated at 6. Graded (#2) paper makes a pretty big difference in contrast. Ready to try out in the world again this weekend, maybe. #BelieveInFilm #AfghanBoxCamera

Adventures in Instant Box Photography! This weekend I popped out briefly to a local park to see if I could successfully set up the instant box cam in the wild. Mixed results, but got one useable photo of an interested passerby and learned several lessons. #BelieveInFilm #InstantBoxCam

Struggling to take some #AfghanBoxCamera photos using mystery photo paper from Ultrafine. Getting eaten up by mosquitos and over exposing everything. Had a much easier go using Harmon positive.

My similar-vintage instant box camera that is actually an Afghan box camera style camera, and NOT for monobath, has a red window so you can dev by inspection. But the monobath cameras did not and were much more simple.

Oh sorry! I was talking about the much more recent dry tintype process. And “instant” postcard cameras. That were still being done by street photographers in the 20s-30s??? Using 1 bath street cameras like the Mandel-ette! 😅😅😅 The Chicago ferrotype co sold a “wonder” developer for these cameras. 😅😅

Yeah, all roads online seem to lead to the afghan box camera project. Which is a great resource, but Ive been surprised at how little I’ve been able to find outside of it, and a few YouTube creators.
