gathers photos i've posted with the word "lake" in the alt text. Should mostly be photos of lakes i like to spend my time at.
may contain the occasional trout
Fished the lake again this afternoon. caught a tiddler cutthroat on the dry, a decent rainbow on the deep line, neither was photographed let alone kept (moratorium on keeping trout for now) Got hung up on something, pulled up a *prize*, lol. Hung out with my friends who are "honeymooning" up there ๐

anyway i went & had breakfast by the lake. The campground is open again, which meant there were already people sitting on the fishing dock, so i just sat next to my truck in a little patch of shade
i jumped (well, walked) into the lake. Too long since i went swimming here...back in July, sometime.
It was as quiet as this photo suggests. The campground is closed because of the fire. Only one other car parked: someone walking their dog.
Almost no birds โ just a raven. i swam my aches out.

Where i used to live is just above the point of the green arrow i drew in the top pic when i was explaining the prevailing summer wind pattern here in a chat. This wind is called a "qualicum": both Qualicum & Squamish are named for winds, not vice versa
www.eoas.ubc.ca/courses/aโฆ.
i had a full day of seeking salmon on east side beaches from Qualicum to Campbell River (didn't find em today, but they'll be here very soon)
so it was mostly a day of looking at water, while broiling under the relentless sun, & i have lots of photos but let's get the bad part over with first ๐งต

Last float for the old boat (for now). fishing was dead, as expected for this time of year, i just felt like i had to take it out one last time before i take it apart & add it to the "non urgent projects" list.

Nitinat Lake is what the Scots would call a "sea loch". it's a mainly saltwater lake, subject to tidal forces. The tides and currents in Nitinat Narrows, where it empties into the Pacific & where Carl runs his ferry, are very treacherous. The upper part of the lake is famous with kiteboarders
went fishless. i needed that full-sink line i can't find. went to the bigger familiar lake, maybe not a great choice given that it's nearly midsummer. but i got some quiet time. i was the last one off the water, listening to nighthawks & Swainson's thrushes & staring at the dramatic-looking sky

Honestly i don't know *where* i'll drive to first, once i get the 4runner back. Oh but of course the first place must be the little "backyard lake". But after that, there's a serious backlogged LIST.
if i still had my "photoshop chops" of yore, i'd take a stab at compositing the Hawaii Mars into the background โ because it used to land right behind that hummingbird :)
i am blessed to have been living there for a while when the plane was still in service (& the south shore forest unlogged ๐ญ)
