Proofreaders, you are the unsung heroes of the publishing world! Thank you for making sure my characters are "hopping" off the streetcar instead of "hoping" off the streetcar. 😅 #writingcommunity #authorlife #booksky #historicalfiction

#Septopolis 14 The main culinary attraction in Sunnyside is Ramone's Bar & Grill, which, TBH, is a fictionalized Applebee's. They also have a small local coffee shop on the "artsy" North Side of town.

#Septopolis 14 Nice and easy: FOOD. Food is a HUGE part of culture everywhere. What's your place's Buffalo wings or Philly cheesesteak or (sorry go ahead and insert your regional food of choice)? #WritingCommunity #Writesky

A daily prompt card for #Septopolis 2025, hosted by @khonri.bsky.social. Sept 14: What’s the cuisine like here? What’s its most notable dish? Does it have history tied to the settlement in some way?

Interpret each prompt as suits your needs! Yap! Or don't!
Build a new place or talk about one you have. Make friends.

The background features a third of the monthly card’s image, a slightly blurred and purple hued image of a set photograph of Main Commercial Street in Fritz Lang's Metropolis (UFA, 1927).

(This episode was recorded before the Creative Arts Emmys were held, so we didn't yet know that Julianne Nicholson would, in fact, win an Emmy for playing Dance Mom on Hacks.)

ICYMI, in last week's #FemFreqRadio bonus episode we talked about the #Emmy nominations. Are you watching the #Emmys tonight? You can listen to this bonus ep with a Patreon subscription or one-time purchase at www.patreon.com/posts/ffr-bo...

You mean to tell me American English calls for "inquire" rather than "enquire"??? I swear I run into these random instances all the time, where apparently I prefer the British spelling of things.

#Septopolis 12 They say "pop" instead of "soda" 😤 Live and let live (but poking fun is expected), respect cops (but Officer Chuck is a pighead), life's better by the lake (aka "GONE FISHIN'"), don't litter (respect your space, respect yourself), bring our boys home (mid-2000s war regret)

#Septopolis 12 This, like your demographics, might be a broad ask; yolo, it's Friday! Depending on your scope, this could vary a lot, but what defines what makes your people, them? #WritingCommunity #Writesky

A daily prompt card for #Septopolis 2025, hosted by @khonri.bsky.social. Sept 12: What kinds of shared attitudes, beliefs, and values are prevalent in the settlement that give it a distinct identity?

When I was a kid, I had nightmares a lot. My mom would give me good dreams by wiggling her fingers against my forehead, my ears, my eyes, my nostrils, and saying, "Good dreams, good dreams, good dreams," until my head was full of good dreams ❤️

#Septopolis I missed the early history section but oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 10. Demo: 90% White, 5% Multiracial, 3% Latino/Latine, 2% "Other." We're talking 2005 Midwestern burbs, baby. Things are changing, and this is addressed. 11. Language: English. The High School has Spanish and French classes.

#Septopolis 11 Nothing clever, it's on the tin. Languages: just one? Several? Did it (or plural) evolve from another language in your world as something mutually intelligible or is it just a regional dialect? #WritingCommunity #Writesky

A daily prompt card for #Septopolis 2025, hosted by @khonri.bsky.social. Sept 11: What languages are spoken here? Any “official” language(s)? Does it have a regional vocabulary or dialect?

A poem with a background of stones and a paper boat floating on water.

No copper for the wishing well
I try to cast a magic spell
By writing all my wishes in a note

I spill my heart with ink and quill
Go to the well upon the hill
And fold my wishes to a paper boat

I drop the vessel to its flight
And though it descends out of sight
I’m certain that on water it will float

And when the water does seep in
That’s when the magic will begin
As it absorbs the wishes that I wrote

Finished another revision on my novel and submitted to SmoochPit. Now, back at work on something I haven't looked at in over three months. Going from editing one day to drafting the next is so strange!

#Septopolis 6 "The North Woods" (NW) is where the spooky stuff happens Coney Lake (NE) is popular for fishing and its small public beach "Sunnyside Woods" (SW) are home to the oopsy-daisy-culturally-insensitive Camp Arrowhead, as well as "Old Man Rock," a boulder that kinda looks like an old guy
