The two more-anxious thoughts I have on blacksky:
1. Are they going to have a way for people who don't want to give up their handle or want to host their own data to be in the community? Obviously not relevant for me, but wholly PDS-based communities create the mastodon problem.

bluesky decentralization in action:
- bluesky the corp bans a user
- userโs data is alive on their blacksky PDS, an indie server
- blacksky will deploy their own API server which will bring back the user to everyone else
- user keeps their data, identity, followers. nothing is lost

TL; DR In the next 5 business days you should be able to go to Link's page on blacksky.community and see his posts and he'll be able to post but people using the bsky mobile apps won't see it. After that we'll get Blacksky-only posts up. After that we can talk about purging bsky mod tools fin/11

oh no my mushroom-pds acct is rightside up, and my mastodon.social is rightside up, but my GTS/hollo/etc alts are upside down. just playing around, it's a convention i picked up from bengo

Just one more reason Iโm so glad to have moved to a BlackSky administered PDS.
@rude1.blacksky.team & team are transparent, honest, admit what theyโre doing well (and what they are trying to improve, upgrade, do better, etc)
They may be a โsmall publisherโ, but Iโm proud theyโre now MY publisher.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

Very good write up, one thing Iโm curious about is how the email was sent to Link? When you move pds do they retain your email or was is done through a Whois level thing?

Iโd love to be able to run more things on my PDS like my Mastodon instance but I imagine the scaling would get quickly. Then there is I imagine the discovery portion but community maintained relays may help with that.

Maybe I'm just not suited to be in a leadership position at a university, because I continue to find a large percentage of the things we do in meetings and PDs extremely naff.

Suspension of accts from Bluesky has called into question the mission and very existence of Blacksky. "If bsky can still suspend you, what's the point?" For one usually Bluesky doesn't just suspend you. They delete all of your data AND suspend you. Moving to Blacksky prevents that. 4/11

Rudy is the real deal. Been waiting for an update, and he sure has it! Makes me really glad I migrated @gregpak.com to Blacksky's myatproto.social PDS for non-Black users - gonna migrate @gregpak.net over asap as well.
