Finished! I'll save most of my thoughts for the #BlueSkyBookClub questions, but in short: what a spectacular book! I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. It felt like reading Tolkien, lyrical and epic, and absolutely captivating. I'm eager to hunt down a copy for my own shelves. πŸ’™πŸ“š #BookSky

Today's book: "Circe" by Madeline Miller Time to catch up on this month's #BlueSkyBookClub read! It's been a minute since I read any Greek mythology, but a little preparatory research ought to shake off the cobwebs. πŸ’™πŸ“š #BookSky #CurrentlyReading #NowReading

A photo of a reader holding a well-loved paperback library book out in front of them, before a tidy bookcase filled with more books. The library book itself is Madeline Miller's mythological fantasy novel "Circe", featuring Will Staehle's cover design: in the (fitting) style of red-figure pottery is the contemplativeβ€”or perhaps resignedβ€”face of a woman, presumably the titular Circe, with a simple circlet crowning her brow and hair like laurel leaves spilling from the flowers at her temples.

Finally starting Circe for #BlueskyBookclub. First impression: I’m really impressed how the author is able to write a story within Greek mythology, that retains the mystique and grandeur of a realm of myth. I think a lot of similar books come off as very corny.

Not a great book but it does have some great nuggets of wisdom in it. In hindsight there are several things I would do differently, beginning with my Editor. #writers #writing #writingcommunity #books #bookclub #blueskywriters #blueskybookclub www.amazon.com/Who-Told-You...

anyone interested in a doing a casual, asynchronous #blueskybookclub in january to read (or re-read) Parable of the Sower? we could set chapter goals each week, pose questions for each other, and then comment back and forth. i could use a refresher on shaping change, and i know i'm not alone.

The humor was a surprise for me. Other books I’ve read by her have been more serious, so the contrast between childhood lightheartedness & harsh adult reality was really interesting. (1/2) #BlueSkyBookClub

I feel like this contrast was well done. Such an accurate & relatable portrayal of trying to find moments of joy & space to just be a kid, while living in a country where justice & accountability too often fail BIPOC communities. (2/2) #BlueSkyBookClub

Cappy had such an interesting arc, I was surprised by how much his character grew on me. Him getting chased by Father Travis was one of my fav scenes, lol. And even though we were told at the beginning of the book that he had died, his death still hit me unexpectedly. #BlueSkyBookClub

Full disclosure, I'm only half way through the book. Rough month. πŸ˜… That said, it's a great book. There’s a lot to love, but I’ve especially enjoyed the insight into reservation life, culture, and legal considerations - things I previously had zero insight into.” #Booksky #BlueskyBookclub

Done with the Roundhouse. Dang the end was a kick in the genitals. The rest too, but less so. Mixed feelings on Sonja more than anyone else. I like Linda and what she represents, that sorta yin/yang bit. The pacing of the grocery trip was masterful. #BlueSkyBookClub #BookSky
