With perpetual gridlock and unreliable public transportation, bike share is the fastest way to get around downtown, even despite the lack of bike lanes. Guess Toronto's formula for success is "make everything else worse" lol But it's also pretty convenient, very cheap, and getting better every year

What Toronto and Montreal have done, Ottawa / Gatineau is overdue to try. I continue to work with @shawnmenard.bsky.social and @envirocentre.bsky.social to bring bike share to the National Capital Region. In Toronto, from 2.4 million rides in 2019 to 8.1 million (projected) in 2025.

‘Michael Longfield, executive director of Cycle Toronto, a charity that advocates for cyclists and cycling infrastructure in the city, called e-bikes a "gateway drug" when speaking in support of the expansion.’ 😆

Bike Share Toronto has seen massive growth. From 2.4 million rides in 2019 to 8.1 million (projected) in 2025, with a goal of 14 million by 2030. They plan to add 2,500 regular bikes and another 2,500 e-bikes in that timeframe. They’re targeting certain station densities too.

My only argument against this is that in Toronto, where I live, we have created financial incentives against this, because 3 mil people keep ordering food delivery and expecting these South Asian guys on bikes to make it all the way across the city in 30 minutes whether it’s 30 Celsius or minus 10.

Getting places in Toronto is bleak. Biking is the obvious choice for time, but we're near my limit for cold temperatures today and I want to arrive cute 😭
Transit App showing several routes.
• 3 transit options, each taking longer than the previous and including more transfers (42-44 minutes)
• Walking 1hr 16m
• Bike/Bike Share (28-41 minutes)
• Uber (20 minutes)

I‘ve cycled in Toronto - haven’t seen that sort of bad behaviour. But I’m in the downtown where most of the cyclists are so drivers are used to us.
