Why are young women using walking sticks?
A disproportionate number of Gen Z females are affected by vague syndromes and may be victims of social contagion

n 19th-century Paris, walking with a cane was a symbol of the dandyish flâneur, strolling elegantly around the city with an ironically arched eyebrow. In 21st-century Britain, canes are the unironic preserve of
vulnerable looking girls.
Sometimes you see groups of them, each leaning on a walking stick as they edge gingerly along. Startlingly fresh-faced users have been visible at Pride parades for a while, and there are growing numbers on university campuses.

lol instead of just accepting that alt text is categorically not a thing for videos, the devs have apparently screwed around and kludged something together in violation of the actual best practices for video accessibility. that's a bitter laugh I didn't actually vocalize because ffs.

Obviously the glasses with a camera in them are weird and creepy if you're not using them as an accessibility aid; however, I cannot work out what it is about them specifically that people want to be banned that isn't either already illegal or stuff other devices can do.

Hidden Valley Playground has thoughtful design, accessibility, and plenty of opportunities for active, creative play. Kids can swing, spin, balance, crawl through log tunnels, test their coordination, use a communication board like kids with language differences www.seattleschild.com/hid….

Okay, I finally read the disability piece. Jfc. Kathleen, even the TINIEST bit of research could have told you that the symptoms of the conditions you list are not actually “vague.” Re POTS: my heart rate skyrocketing when I go from sitting to standing is not subjective.

I just wanna know why does it take three tries to get disability and you still have to get an attorney and go to court just to approve that you're disabled. The system is freaking broken.

I wish more folks understood and accepted how diverse people's experience of having ADHD is—the way most Disability things are, really—and how it is compounded with other circumstances in their lives. And how what works for someone else might not work for you and vice versa and that's okay.

Yeah at this point I largely try to stay out of ADHD discourse because some people (mostly dudes if we're honest but not always) will absolutely take it as a personal attack if another ADHD person does a thing they personally struggle with

im not shocked stan lee did that "its about any sort of oppression" shtick whenever questioned (to get as many people to feel included and thus boost readership, probably) but like. its pretty unsubtly about disability.

60s X-Men lowkey isnt about race or being gay or whatever its about disability. professor x as a wheelchair user exists to connect the allegory to a more concrete and real lived experience. doom patrol still does it better tho

Woman on her phone walking past me was trying to schedule a nurse and I heard "VA disability" and "hospice," and that's... a lot.

If you're in a wheelchair, you can still enjoy a day at the beach. This was my experience. youtu.be/mqpFOqNnoTg #Disability
I tried the Floating Beach Wheelchair...and it was awesome.

Ive been saying this for a while, when you see the hype around "AI" through a disability studies lens, you really do see that so much of the hype and fantasies are about defeating death, but also "curing/conquering" disability. Many powerful people in SV are aging, and it terrifies them.

I think the “disease classes” these bros want to cure is “death”—specifically theirs. Everything in this part of the machine learning space feels less like innovation and more like “C’mon! Hurry up! We only have a few decades left to become immortal!” So, about that “time”….
