Master's tools won't bring down the master's house, you know. The right thing to do, the smart thing to do, is so often the harder thing to do. We cannot build power within the system they own, but we can circumvent the system and build power outside of it to bring it down.

The rise of podcasts (and with it the rise of conservative media) is a symptom of our isolation, I think. We need to counter the fucking isolation.

Know what kind of engagement is sustainable for you. I am not a working-in-big-groups person, for the most part; but I am amazing at coordinating between people, orgs, and resources, and troubleshooting how to build projects and programs from limited resources.

And FTP is an example of a completely grassroots effort. We're all volunteers. We have no money. And yet over the past 2 years, we've made an impact in raising awareness about library boards and getting more Leftists to start taking them seriously.

I like efforts like Library Dads for many reasons but primarily I like it because it's an effort for men to interact with their own children "IN PUBLIC" outside of a sports context. It models nurture and engagement. dearfathers.com/2024/10/h…. - But these kinds of efforts isn't what ppl mean...
