Too many young people are currently locked out of the housing market due to unaffordable rents, and insecure living arrangements. YMCA is campaigning to deliver 10,000 affordable and supported homes for young people. It was great to join their launch in Parliament last week.
A picture of Steve Darling MP in front of a banner which reads "help create 10,000 homes for young people," holding a placard which says "end the youth housing crisis YMCA"

I voted to remove the 2-child limit which will benefit 2,200 children in Llanelli. Poverty makes it harder for children to get on in life & hurts our economy at a cost of £40bn per year. We must break this cycle for the good of our country. www.carmarthenshirenewson….

It was a pleasure to show my support for cancer research, in parliament on Monday for the World Cancer day drop in. It was inspiring to hear about their goals to remove red tape and speed up patient access to clinical trials and make the NHS the UK’s leading research launchpad for innovators. 🧵: 1/2

Removing the two-child limit is the single biggest step we can take to reduce child poverty. Labour is taking action which will change lives. Reform would reverse it.

Spoiler alert… The name left on the prayer card on the Reform bench was SMITH I asked the doorkeeper to check the list for any new defections but he was as bemused as me… So either a defection in the offing or someone changing their name overnight. Not long to wait and see who sits in that seat 🕵🏻

Apparently there’s a rogue prayer card on the reform bench this morning, possibly signalling another defection at PMQs… Anyone want to guess on who is the latest traitor to be unmasked??

Every year, around 480 people in #Slough are diagnosed with #cancer and devastatingly 180 people die of it. On #WorldCancerDay, pleased to support @cancerresearchuk.org campaign to make this a #TurningPointForCancer - we must do all we can to fight this awful disease.

The use of Grok AI to generate and distribute sexualised content, including material appearing to involve children, is appalling and unacceptable. Safeguards are failing. Alongside fellow MPs, I’ve written to the Secretary of State for Science and Technology calling for urgent, strong AI regulation.

I’ve urged the Health Secretary to act on the urgent need for access to medical cannabis for children with drug‑resistant epilepsy. Too many families are still forced into financial hardship to secure treatment that should be available on the NHS.

Great to be out campaigning with Croydon Labour alongside Rachel Reeves, having brilliant conversations about the changes Labour is delivering. Best of luck to @rowennadavis.bsky.social, a superb candidate for Mayor of Croydon, who can bring much needed change on the local level too. 🌹

Today is World Cancer Day. Ahead of the release of the government's new Cancer Strategy I met with Cancer Research UK. 👏I applaud their work and the government for their commitment to ensure that 75% of people diagnosed with cancer will either be cancer free or living well after 5 years from 2035!

Last night, I voted to end the two-child benefit cap. This change will lift 450,000 children out of poverty by the end of this Parliament. We have a long way to go to eliminate child poverty but this is a vital step forwards, reversing one of the most damaging policies of the last decade.

Great to see Alton School in Roehampton opening one of Labour’s new free breakfast clubs. Breakfast clubs help parents get to work and give children the best possible start to the school day. This is Labour’s Plan for Change in action, boosting life chances for children.

Millions of people around the world are living in poverty. Meanwhile, the rich and powerful commit heinous crimes with impunity. Our rotten political system rewards dishonesty, abuse & greed. It’s time to replace it with a real democracy that works for the many, not the few.
