I think in the tech industry we tend to forget how connected VC investment and interest rates are. Especially that despite high interest rates, there is a LOT of investment in AI. Outside AI: not much. This is unlikely to change until rates don't change.

Earlier today I used ChatGPT Deep Research, it ran for 10 minutes, scanned 35 sites, and generated a multi-page response. Probably burned more compute than a month of casual use. That’s the AI boom in a nutshell, usage exploding faster than costs are dropping. Revenue’s up, profits? Not so much.

Great post on the AI boom’s blessing & curse. Demand’s so hot Nvidia, Google & Microsoft can’t build GPUs and data centers fast enough. But that same demand is killing margins, features like Deep Research use 100x the compute of last year’s chats. Even $200/month isn’t enough to make the math work
