I am sounding the alarm that the GOP is engaged in an all out attack voting rights and free and fair elections. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, and troops in blue cities are just some of the ways they are using to try to rig the rules to keep power in 2026 and beyond. Pay attention and act!
It should be a litmus test for Democratic presidential primary candidates whether they will restore the White House and DC public properties to exactly the way they were before the Palm Beach lounge lizard decided to turn it into Mar-a-Lago meets 1936 Nuremberg.
🚨BREAKING: New York Court of Appeals UNANIMOUSLY UPHOLDS state law moving most county and town elections to even-numbered years. By aligning them with state and federal elections, it will boost voter turnout. Another victory for voters and defeat for the GOP! www.democracydocket.com/cases/new-yo...
Chris Murphy: "This is a country that's falling apart because Trump is in the middle of an authoritarian takeover. We're not on the verge of an authoritarian takeover. We're in the middle of it ... I have no moral obligation to vote for a budget that literally funds the destruction of our democracy"
If you’ve recently awoken from a coma, the Speaker of the House is stalling the swearing in of a newly elected member from Arizona because she would be the deciding vote in the discharge petition to release the Epstein files, which would be trouble for his boss. You’re caught up. Ps: Welcome back.
AOC: The problem is that the Trump administration, they think that destroying our health care, making sure that housing is too expensive to live in, that jacking up the cost of our groceries—they think all of this is about hurting Democrats. What they are doing is hurting Americans
BERNIE: “I worry we are increasingly becoming an oligarchic form of society, where a very small # of people control our economy + have huge influence over both political parties. if there was ever a time to stand up for working families and prevent authoritarianism, this is it.”
Q: “Most hospitals + people who will lose insurance are in rural areas. If Trump & Republicans are so intent on sticking it to their own voters, why not let them?” @aoc.bsky.social : “That’s the difference between us & Trump. I don’t care if you voted for me, I want you to have health care.”
Hochul: "They promised to extract revenge on their political enemies & apparently any state that has a D gov. Tell me how Florida & Texas could receive these same funds w/o having to go to court? They're playing politics, but more than that, they're playing with people's lives. And that's abhorrent"
Imagine lying as easily as @RepTimBurchett does. Nobody is paying the millions of people who will be out there. Wanting better for your country isn’t hating it, Tim. Quite the opposite. It’s real patriotism. 🇺🇸 Throwing out the constitution to cling to power is the real hating your country.
thinking about the time a cool Instagram fashion account asked me to name my favorite products and i didn't know i was supposed to name fashion products, so i said pigeon food because i like feeding pigeons and their followers were like "why the fuck do i need pigeon food for my outfit?"
Remember the first few months of this year, when all we talked about was DOGE and spending cuts and waste, and this administration gutted USAID? And now they’re giving $40 billion (!) to Argentina. Insane the amount of amnesia in this country and in our politics and media.
“Don’t be fooled by those in Epstein’s circle who say they didn’t know what he was doing. Epstein…took a certain glee in making people watch. And people did watch – scientists, fundraisers from the Ivy League and other heralded institutions, titans of industry. They watched and they didn’t care.”
CHICAGO: “Feds chased a car through a residential neighborhood… intentionally crashed into the car.. responded to the crowd by hurling smoke grenades, shooting pepper balls and deploying 3 rounds of tear gas with children & seniors in the area…” chicago.suntimes.com/immigration/...
New in PN: Scenes from Portland's imaginary insurrection "I’ve been taking images that are nowhere near this one conflict driveway — ones of puppies & kids playing, & families having picnics — b/c the idea that Portland is burned down & a war zone is just preposterous" — @timdickinson.bsky.social
"We can have democracy in this country, or we can have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we can't have both." –Justice Louis Brandeis Words spoken many years ago that are just as relevant today. We must continue the fight to get big money out of politics.
Two class-action lawsuits accuse Bank of America and Bank of New York of maintaining relationships with Jeffrey Epstein and failing to report suspicious activities until after his death. The suits allege his trafficking operation wouldn’t have existed without the special treatment provided to him.
NEW: The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. We found more than 170 such incidents since the start of the second Trump administration. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes nearly 20 children, two of whom have cancer.
A nationwide backlash to AI data centers is brewing. And for good reason: while AI enriches Big Tech CEOs and props up the stock market, data centers are sucking up communities’ water and power. When the AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag. Be warned.
ICYMI — PELOSI: “Shut up. I did not refuse the National Guard. The President didn’t send it. Why are you coming here with Republican talking points as if you’re a serious journalist?” (The unserious questioner is Alison Steinberg, who works for Mike Lindell — the my pillow guy)
Boyle: Mike Johnson and House Republicans have decided to do their own version of quiet quitting — they canceled session three weeks ago, they canceled session two weeks ago, and they’ve now canceled it last week and this week. There is clearly no strategy there other than pure, sheer laziness
ICE's military raids and masked kidnappings are resonating deeply/negatively in the cultural spaces we keep hearing Dems need to reach: Manosphere, Joe Rogan, country music, disengaged voters. That's rare and it gives Dems a big opening to engage. Thoughts on this: newrepublic.com/article/2018...
Sydney Reid acquitted. This was a case where someone filming was assaulted, and then arrested and charged with felony assault. The grand jury no billed that, so they took her to trial on a misdemeanor charge. There were a bunch of discovery problems. And now this. Kudos to the FPDS!
Everyone should listen to this. It’s easy to blame Rogan for understanding the situation far too late, but the important thing is that he’s using his platform-with his millions of listeners-to talk about it now. This one show will reach more normal GOP folks than we ever could.
