Some of the best movies ever made were by Rob Reiner. They made us laugh and think: The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men. And he was a force on screen as well in All in the Family and so many films. What a tragic loss. Words fail with news like this.
For better or worse, public figures are judged when they die — their character, contributions, beliefs. It's undeniable that millions have mourned Rob Reiner's tragic death, celebrating his talent and contributions. I suspect when a certain public figure kicks the bucket, sentiments wont be the same
Speaking ill of the dead is controversial, particularly when it was a violent death. It’s edgy; it’s sensitive; best avoided in most cases, etc. Baselessly making another person’s murder *about yourself,* and then approving of it, is a different thing. That is delusional, narcissistic, sociopathic.
This morning the very evil President of the USA very predictably mocked the death of a good man. He did so to distract from his crimes, but also because he’s evil and can’t help rejoicing over the murder of his critics. Go ahead, Donold. Have your fun, when life is done, a nightmare waits for you.
With just 17 days until Obamacare tax credits expire, it’s now clear: Congress—and the country—are headed over the Obamacare cliff. Even if the House acts, the Senate won’t move in time. It’s outrageous that all members of Congress have great, taxpayer-funded healthcare! Screw regular Americans!!
This NYT story failed the reader by not digging deeper. One subject dropped out of college after one year (five years ago) and lists "Windows" as his skillset. Story should be: young conservatives who blame immigrants for their personal failures and whose lives won't be improved w/ fewer immigrants
Rob Reiner directed some of the most beloved movies of all time, including Stand By Me, This is Spinal Tap, and The Princess Bride. His production company also made movies like The Shawshank Redemption, Before Sunrise and Michael Clayton. The film industry has lost one of its titans.
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.
On a personal note. I knew Rob Reiner & his lovely wife Michelle. One of my happiest memories was chatting with them in their kitchen, making sandwiches talking politics, and movies. They were kind people. Extraordinarily normal and very, very kind. I love & miss them already. Life is short.
Jones: Everything you hear from Tuberville is framed as a sports analogy. When you view everything that way, you’re always stuck in an us-versus-them, winners-versus-losers mentality. That’s how he operates. But the fact that communities across Alabama are suffering is not a game.
Stephen Miller is employing state terror in service of the open goal of shifting the ethnic mix of the country. In numerous ways he's doing this at the expense of public safety. We spent weeks reporting on Miller's real aims. Here's the result. We hope you'll read: newrepublic.com/article/2041...
If you’re telling Head Start programs they can’t say “disability”, “Black”, “female”, or “Tribal” in order to get funded—you don’t care about kids. Period. This administration is attacking the very protections that keep children safe and supported. Our kids are not political props.
I’ve been guilty of this too, but when I read people say, even though they’re trying to be nice, like “I disagree with Rob Reiner politically, but I am sad by his loss.” Why do we always feel the need to talk about whether we agreed with somebody politically or not?
Apropos to a post I'm not going to quote: no, you are not fucking obliged to battle the fucking right on fucking social media, or go to where they are. Why make yourself miserable shouting at bots (who don't care) or trolls (who get off on your misery). Make your fucking social media enjoyable, FFS.
My heart is heavy tonight hearing the news about our friend and legend Rob Reiner and his wife. I can’t begin to imagine what their family is going through right now. Rob has brought so much to our culture and our conversations with his work, his voice, his humanity matter, and so much more.
I want every single solitary Republican in every elected office in every corner of this country to be asked about Donald Trump’s post about Rob Reiner. They like to cloak themselves in religion… Then read it to them. Don’t let them say they “didn’t see it.” Let them “defend” it.
Trump posted this without knowing Nick Reiner had been arrested. He posted it apparently assuming that one of his fans had murdered Rob Reiner. So if you want to know how Trump will react once his fans start murdering his enemies, now you know. He'll celebrate and blame his enemies.

I am devastated to learn of the passing of Rob Reiner and his wife. "Defending My Life" has always been my go-to answer for my favorite film. Conquering fear is the best way to approach existence, it changed who i am. I know they won't need to look at any days, they're moving right on ahead.
I’m having a hard time comprehending the news about Rob Reiner. All I can articulate right now is how much I admired him, how much I enjoyed his work, and how thoroughly shocked I am hearing about what happened. My favorite superpower in any human is the art of storytelling. He was a master.

Anyone still serving in the Trump Administration must reckon with the reality that, when the government has previously perpetrated egregious miscarriages of justice, history has not been forgiving to those who’ve gone along, however reluctantly. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
