UPDATE | The 8.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Russia's Far East early Wednesday and prompted tsunami warnings across the Pacific appeared to be the strongest anywhere in the world since the devastating 9.0 quake off northeast Japan in March 2011. No major injuries have been reported.
