@masnick.com I used to think you were okay. Now I can just imagine you yelling at me that I need to be more accepting of AI wankers when all I wanted was to hang with my friends. Why do you get to say what I’m forced to be an audience to in the name of growth? Get off of my cloud, dude.
I’ll be honest, the aspects of my life that needs improving are markedly not the services the likes of OpenAI offer. Lemme know when this thing can potty train my kids, make salads safe to eat, fix my dad’s insomnia, hell maybe just get the stains out of the guest bathroom tub
All of the LLMs stole from me. Most of the big "A.i." billionaires are horrifying right wingers. Consumer-facing generative "A.i." "writing" and "art" tools deskill people, cheat kids out of real education, spread falsehoods and disinfo, and violate privacy. So no, I ain't using that shit.
Regarding the Bass-Raman stuff, just a reminder that since june 2025 federal and local cops and deputies have brutalized anti ICE protesters and people at peaceful rallies dozens of times WITHIN EYESHOT OF CITY HALL. LITERALLY LESS THAN HALF A MILE AWAY OR RIGHT OUTSIDE!
The flight deck is strictly restricted to essential flight ops personnel, 70% to 80% of the crew work entirely below deck. These sailors can go weeks or even months without seeing natural sunlight while on these extended deployments. That’ll do it, alright. www.wunc.org/2026-08-13/l...
Major progress has been made in talks with a pair of Israeli banks to push off imminent plans to cease providing correspondent banking services to Palestinian counterparts, which could collapse West Bank economy @jacobmagid.bsky.social www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ent...
“We entered into this Trumpian bulls–tocracy bc we stopped giving proper value to the character of our leaders, and like a virulent epidemic, the flaws of those we elevated then spread so rapidly that they now threaten the very life of our republic. That’s no exaggeration.” ‼️
I’ve been mostly offline because of work travel and it’s been pretty great but there’s a little bit of me that’s relieved when I drop back in here and see the usual level of unhinged drama over trivialities. A nice warm blanket of familiarity and predictability in a cold, cold world.
You might not believe it, but, truth, can set us free. “The only path out is that each of us, individually, makes seeking the truth our top priority, and skepticism our constant ally. We must seek out reliable sources of info and reject those who deliver anything less.” @djrothkopf.bsky.social
When a drone strike closed an airport, a writer was forced to make his way home from Saudi Arabia. Along the road, perceptions of the conflict and its politics varied widely Anonymous The author is a Kuwaiti writer who requested anonymity newlinesmag.com/first-person...
Doris Miller was raised on a farm outside Waco. During the attack on Pearl Harbor, as the military was still segregated, he was a mess attendant assigned to laundry duty. When the attack happened, without any gun training, he shot down Japanese planes and carried his commander to safety.
The thing I don’t get about this whole “learn AI or you’ll be left behind” is most LLMs don’t seem particularly complex to navigate. This isn’t learning Excel. Get on or get left behind” feels less threatening when the people I know on the train don’t know how to attach a pdf to their emails.
