Evaluating president at 100 days is a bit arbitrary (based on marker in FDR first term) Still, most say it’s enough time to judge Trump, who promised lots of immediate action However, Republicans say it’s not enough time, despite approving of his job handling More: www.cbsnews.com/news/cbs-new...

This, from a woman in Oklahoma talking to her local news station, is better than the vast majority of political speeches you'll hear today.

A horrible story but god bless this woman so accurately reading the ICE goons for filth here

Marisa said she is eft with nothing BUt questions.
"What if I would have been armed," she 2 said. "You're breaking in. What am 1 supposed to think? My initial thought was we were being robbed-that my daughters, being females, were being kidnapped. You have guns pointed in our faces. Can you just reprogram yourself and see us as humans, as women? A little bit of mercy. Care a little bit about your fellow human, about your fellow citizen, fellow resident. We bleed too. We vork. We pleed justlike anybody else bleeds. We're scared. You could see our faces that we were terrified. What makes you so much more worthier of your peace? What makes you so much more worthier of protecting your children? What makes you so much more worthy of your citizenship? What makes you more worthy of safety? Of being given
the ight t that they took from me to protect my daughters?"

Yesterday we learned that another person detained in the Pima County jail died. He was 38-years old. Cause of death still undisclosed. He's at least the third person to die in the jail this year.

I did a brief follow up to the incredible and frightening story from Sarah Stillman at @newyorker.com, who wrote about a woman who starved to death in our local Tucson jail. Latest for @azluminaria.org azluminaria.org/2025/04/28/n...

Barber's arrest, btw, came after he *also* spoke at the Capitol Steps sit-in hosted by Minority Leader Jeffries and Sen. Cory Booker, where Rev. Dr. Leslie Copeland-Tune of the NCC and Rev. Jimmie Ray Hawkins of the Presbyterian Church (USA)'s Office of Public Witness also addressed the crowd.

NEW: Here's the very long list of the many mistakes Trump and his crew have made in his first 100 days. We're not talking about misguided and destructive policies but dumbass errors and blunders they've had to acknowledge and correct. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
What Donald Trump has destroyed in his first 100 days won’t be easy to rebuild

Trying to explain that Chinese people do not want to buy Ford F-150s, but do want to pay a huge premium to consume higher education in the US. We are mostly a service economy, and Trump is trashing those services.

“There’s no American goods in foreign countries. And he’s trying to right that wrong.”

Again, my wife lost her excellent job at a nonprofit Seattle hospital because the trump administration simply stopped paying medicaid reimbursements at the beginning of the year, throwing it into complete financial turmoil the cuts are already here

Johnson: "Do not believe the lies the Democrat Party has said. We had their ads taken down. They were running ads around the country in swing districts trying to convince people Republicans are going to 'gut Medicaid.' It's just simply not true & that's why their ads & billboards had to come down"

NEW: Julian Borger, the Guardian's global affairs correspondent, has written a beautiful book about the escape of his father & other Jewish children from Vienna in the late 1930s. It has lessons for us today. We spoke about that for my OUR LAND newsletter. link.motherjones.com/public/39616...

NEW: In advance of the May 16 hearing in 2 y/o V.M.L.'s habeas case — www.lawdork.com/p/trump-depo... — Judge Doughty lays out the issues: "[T]he Court sought to call VML’s mother to have her attest that she consented to her child being removed with her. ... That didn’t happen. ... Now we are here."
The father allegedly tried to get VML back but was fearful he'd be deported too.
ECF No. 5 at 3. So, he purportedly assigned his custodial rights to his sister-in-law,
an American citizen. ECF No 1 at 6. Accounts vary, but VML remained in ICE
custody despite the father and sister-in-law's efforts. Relevant here, Petitioner alleges that the mother and father agreed on the phone in the presence of an ICE agent to have VML remain in the United States, and the ICE agent allegedly agreed that VML would not be deported. See ECF No. 5. at 2-3. It is ICE's position that

VML's mother instead requested VML go with her to Honduras, and ICE provided a note purporting as much. ECF No. 5-1 at 5, 10. That is the factual dispute the Court sought to clarify prior to VML's removal. The procedural history below illuminates
why pre-removal clarification was impossible.
This case was filed at 7:59 p.m. CST on April 24, 2025. See NEF RECEIPT, ECF
No. 1. The plane carrying VML from the Alexandria Division took off toward Texas at 6:23 a.m. CST. See ECF No. 5 at 1. The case was assigned to the undersigned at
8:14 a.m. CST on April 25, 2025, and the Court immediately began considering the Petition. A minute later, at 8:15 a.m., the plane carrying VML from Alexandria
reached El Paso, preparing for its final leg to Honduras. For even greater context, the Court was simultaneously conducting criminal jury selection in an unrelated
matter beginning at 9:00 a.m. CST. The Government's position on VML was first
gleaned from an exhibit (ECF No. 5-1) to Petitioner's Reply brief (ECF No. 5), filed at
9:41 a.m. CST. See NEF RECEIPT, ECF No. 5. Now aware of the alleged note
controverting the Petition's allegations, the Court sought to call VML's mother to have her attest that she consented to her child being removed with her. See ECF No.
8. That didn't happen. See id. Now we are here.

Ask him what a gallon of milk costs. He's completely out of touch if he believes what he's saying. He's talking about big retailers—and I'm not sure these firms are well prepared for what's coming. But what about the small businesses that can't afford to import their products? Does he talk to them?

Bessent: "I wouldn't think that we would have supply chains shocks, and I think retailers have managed their inventory in front of this."

In addition to writing annoying tweets, I sometimes ask questions of politicians. One of my Qs for Ds today has been: “in his first 100 days, has the President committed any impeachable offenses?” Answer I’m getting is, yes, but Rs won’t fulfill their responsibility, so other tools are better.

I annoyed a bunch of people with my "impeachment doesn't really do anything" take, but the other part of the take was that Dems should focus on Oversight instead. They are definitely not acting like a strong Oversight committee/strategy is coming if they win the House.

I spoke with a University of Arizona PhD student who had his visa revoked and then, two weeks later, his status reinstated. He was weeks away from his oral exams when his life was upended. “This for me was racist, more than anything,” Amir told me. azluminaria.org/2025/04/29/u...

Credit where due: Fox News this morning aired a fascinating snippet from a North Korean news broadcast, providing an unusual bit of insight into how an autocratic regime works.

Ainsley Earhardt: "He is so good at communicating. It's such a gift ... He knows about every sport. He knows about trade. He knows about the border. He's so equipped for this job, and I think he's having more fun this go round ... he is gifted."
