if you're referring to what i think you're referring to (youtu.be/AdNJ3fydeao?...) then this feels like a mischaracterisation. we were, and continue to be, skeptical of the idea that you should deal with slow updates by spreading them out (further delaying everything) rather than making them fast

Have always thought that the ability to delay updates pending coordinated async work is extremely valuable, we certainly never dismissed that. Just took us a long time to find a design that met our threshold (and be in a position to implement it). The document references prior art, especially React!

But as for the forking, the reason we don't really talk about prior art is that I'm not aware of any similar pre-existing mechanism to what we have in mind. It would be a low-level programmatic API, nothing like <Activity> (when we steal _that_ idea, we will credit liberally as always!)

It would be interesting to read about which tradeoffs React considered and why it ultimately chose the ones it did. I feel like useTransition and useDeferredValue still aren’t well understood by the community, but maybe some background would help

sync 1.1 fixed that about a month ago, so your testing is probably out of date. storage is now mostly static based on the replay window.

there will be an updated post soon. new relay uses around 2x vCPU, 10 GB RAM, 500 GB SSD, 50mbps bandwidth, IIRC. disk scales with event rate times replay window. 500 GB doesn't grow over time, only with event rate. that is for 72hr window, could slash a lot

Yeah I think I had misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were saying the key would just sit on the Secure Enclave and only be accessible by the app, now I get the user would be able to see it in plain text with Face ID.

I appreciate your shielding of your team. I’m sure they deserve it. Good leadership. This is important but if it was as easy as flipping a switch, you would have done so yourself.
