Multiple things can be true at once. I think he prob was told to hold back and tone it down in ways that weren't helpful. Also, he was mid, and there's no reason to believe that he would be a winner if he were allowed to speak freely. All we know is that he lost when we desperately needed a win.

I'm gonna engage with this one more time. I think "weird" did well but it wasn't as huge as people on here make it. Even if they tripped him up on that, he didn't have a second moment. He arguably had a bad one in the debate. And the China mess was an early stumble when he was put out there.

In my Informed Opinion: The #BidenWorld Comms *Leadership* sunk the Harris-Walz campaign teams’ StratComm approach, including the “Weird” messaging.

I think Walz is great. But the biggest point against him is the idea he was "muzzled". II don't buy it frankly - "weird" got dropped before it got stale IMHO. But if you got a crowd of people thinking someone was weak enough to be "muzzled" by Democratic strategists...? Bad baggage, that.
