Here's who to blame for giving Hegseth credit for this work, his senior thesis advisor, who saw Hegseth as a fellow skeptic about the liberal elite. Today he claims "no specific recollection" of Hegseth's thesis, though here he seems to remember him fondly.

I find this statement by Deneen surprising and at odds with my experience as a Princeton student, where I and most of my friends met regularly with their advisors and received lots of feedback along the way. It is also at odds with my experience as a thesis advisor at South Carolina and Cornell.
