Hey @ascbiology.bsky.social peeps! My Tactile Mitosis talk is at 4pm tomorrow —which is one of many amazing talks on the power of art in science and education. Hope you all can make it! #sciart
One of the very first illustrations I did in this style and even though the color isn't physiologically accurate, this is STILL one of my absolute favorites!!
When I found out I could make it into a sticker, I felt like a kid! 🤣🤣🤣

Now, I'm not saying this is how I'd do it, but prompted by nothing other than my own curiosity, a sketch of #Tyrannosaurus for Saturday.

It's time for the "How to do ALT text" image again.
Writing a perfect ALT text is impossible, but please try 💚!
Visually impairment is a wide spectrum and doesn't keep people from loving the visual arts.

I've been getting into painting Minis and today I did this little fella! He was a wood carved figure I got at a Christmas market some years ago
I even made it glossy to add a bit more realism but my phone camera didn't quite capture it :")

2. Rowan AKA mountain ash tree.
Most wild trees I see have red berries, but in the old cem and parks here, there's also some with orange, yellow, and even white berries.

I’ve been itching to do more plant as habitat pieces and koa (Acacia koa) made the perfect subject. Featured are the many instars of the koa bug (Coleotichus blackburniae), the koa looper moth and caterpillars (Scotorythra paludicola), and a few parasitic wasp (Pristomerus hawaiiensis). #sciart
OK, let me join #ArtAdventCalendar, late, even if I might not catch up entirely!
Gonna go for a #SciArt zine illustrations theme.
1. Kentish glory moth.
No longer found in Kent, or indeed most other places in the UK. Now scarce and found only in Scotland, if I recall correctly.
My little paper advent calendar had one of these green woodpeckers in it today, so here’s one I painted earlier.

This is one of my older drawings (2019), which I used to teach young audiences about genetic engineering and breeding. It’s illustrating the basics of plant reproduction, highlighting the fact that seeds are plant “babies” #ArtAdventCalendar#SciArt#ChildrenIllustration
A Picnic in the Deep -FOR SALE
In the deep cold abyss, various deep sea animals gather for a picnic at a Whalefall. The Sleeper Shark arrives, a bit sleepy and late, but ready to eat!
If you are interested in the purchase of this artwork then DM me! Price is 50 dollars plus Shipping.
Another interesting fish from the Kem Kem - Bawitius! This is a 3m-long bichir, a group of fish I wasn't familiar with until starting this piece. Today, members of this group don't get more than a meter in length, and are apparently popular in aquariums!
