Great spangled fritillary painting, one of two of this kind of butterfly I have available at the moment 🦋 Details on my website: www.nataliejunewernimoon.com #painting #butterfly #bugs #insects #entomology #nature #sciart #butterflyart #natureart #originalart #art #paintings #butterflies
Realistic painting of a butterfly in a wood frame sitting on a distressed white tabletop. There are hints of wood tone showing throughout the white surface, which you can also see behind the butterfly. This helps to indicate that the insect has been painted on a clear glass surface, and looks like it is floating in the middle of the frame.

Here's the mutant Oarfish from the collection! This was one of the first ones I designed for Warped Ocean. abistevens.etsy.com/listi…. #ArtShop #DarkArt #SciArt
A photo of a gold-plated hard-enamel pin featuring my oarfish design; two oarfish bodies merged at the head, twisted into a celtic knot pattern and then connected again at the tail end. They have black-rimmed eyes all along thier green bodies. One body has all open eyes and the other has all its eyes closed. Their fins are red and there is a screenprinted pattern of blob shapes in a slightly darker green on the body, which is hard to see in this photo.

This is a fantastic image for #InverteFest because it shows how tragically underrepresented invertebrates are, yet how massively they outnumber vertebrates, which get far more attention. We joke about vertebrate bias, but it's real!

An update following feedback from several kind people. As before, reuse as you see fit..

An infographic showing the number of described and estimated species for major animal groups. There are more insects than anything else. Of the remaining groups, arachnids and nematodes are the most diverse.

For people not aware: Lemuria is a spec evo project of the #paleostream community. It follows the evolution of organisms living on the fictional continent of Lemuria (fusion of Madagascar and India) from the Cretaceous to the Pleistocene. We are now in the Pleistocene.

A scientific illustration showing the life cycle of a plant Rhynchospora tenuis.

Figure caption:
Schematic representation of the R. tenuis life cycle (2n = 4). Both male and female meiosis proceed without crossovers (achiasmatic inverted meiosis). Male gametogenesis is asymmetric, yielding a single functional sperm nucleus and non-Mendelian segregation. Fertilization restores the diploid state with intact haplotypes, but only heterozygous seeds develop into viable embryos, ensuring faithful restoration of the highly heterozygous parental genome each generation.

Fig. 5: Life cycle of R. tenuis (PECP-48 genotype) under achiasmatic meiosis.
