v excited to see this work from @astrobonk.bsky.social on the arXiv !! In this, Rebecca Kyer + report the discovery of two Galactic accreting compact objects consistent with being transitional millisecond pulsars !! I worked on this optical variability plot with Rebecca !! 🧪🔭☄️ #highenergyastro
Optical light curves for both objects. The points are different shapes and different colors to show different wavelengths, and there is 0.5-1.0 mag variability across many years. See Figure 1 in the paper for a full caption.

I'm all for going back to fundamentals to see what was missed, but I'm annoyed by anyone who says there's nothing else to discover. Their disenchantment with a discipline doesn't mean a whole field is an absolute dead end. #highenergyastro ⚛️🧪

Michaela Schwab's first first-author paper is now out! She analyzes HST imaging at ~2500 (!!!) days post-maximum and finds there is still (still) a flux excess! She is PI of a HST program that will be revisiting this source to keep tracking the evolution! 🔭🧪☄️👩‍🔬 #highenergyastro #womeninstem

ah !! new from Fabio Ragosta (Università di Napoli Federico II) et al. who find support that SN 2015ap originated from a binary star system ! Figure 1 (below) shows the publicly-available light curve of SN 2015ap, and I really like that the points are little stars ! 🧪🔭☄️ #highenergyastro
Two light curves of SN 2015ap. The data points are small stars, and there are dashed-line fits to these data. These fits show a Gaussian Process fit to the data. See the caption of Figure 1 for more information.

It's been a long time coming... the paper I led on GRB 221009A was recently accepted for publication by ApJ ! : ) Check out this poster I made for the project for the upcoming 'Celebrating 20 Years of Swift Discoveries' Conference !! 🧪🔭☄️ #highenergyastro #womeninSTEM
A scientific conference poster with the title 'Late-time (t ~ 330 d) HST and JWST Observations of GRB 221009A.' The background is pink and orange and is reminiscent of the fabric clouds used by the dancers at the opening of Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour. There are 3 figures on the poster. The first is a set of colored images showing the field of the GRB. The second is a SED of the data showing a blue upturn. The third is a light curve showing a break at 50 days. At the bottom is a summary statement saying "GRB 221009A shows an optical/NIT temporal break at 50 d and evidence for an additional blue component, maybe a star cluster or a light echo !" See the paper for more information on all figures and conclusions.

New paper on the arXiv this morning! How does stellar spin rate influence how well we can recover neutron star radius (which depends on the equation of state of ultradense matter inside the star) using pulse profile modeling? #highenergyastro 🔭🧪 arxiv.org/abs/2502.07471

Scaling relations for the uncertainty in neutron star radius inferred from pulse profile modelling: the effect of spin rate

Pulse profile modelling using X-ray data from NICER permits the inference of mass and radius for rotation-powered millisecond pulsars. This in turn constrains the equation of state of cold dense matte...
