The Metals Company (TMC) used Pacific nations to access the ISA, then aligned with Trump for gain—clear opportunism. Their actions threaten seabed ecosystems. We must urge all Govts to call for a global moratorium on deep-sea mining to protect oceans and uphold UNCLOS. www.abc.net.au/pacific/prog...

If we really wanted to do deep sea mining we should at least go with the company that hovers over the seabed and avoids scooping up living organisms with detection systems. And not just one giant plow hoover that couldn’t care less.

I will be tuning in to the House Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee of the NRC hearing on Exploring the Potential of Deep-Sea Mining to Expand American Mineral Production. www.youtube.com/watch?v=s75c...

The deep ocean is one of the world’s largest, most fragile, and most important ecosystems. We need a global moratorium to stop the launch of this destructive new extractive industry.

But the ocean isn’t for sale — it’s a living, breathing ecosystem with defenders everywhere. This is NOT the start of deep sea mining, but the start of an even bigger wave of resistance against this destructive industry.

Why does a Canadian company need/want permission from the United States President? Don't they know that other countries deserve some input to the future of seabed mining?šŸ¤”

I'm open to being wrong on higher order questions, but first blush its much less harmful than coal mining on both traditional pollution concerns and carbon. I think seabed mining is quite a bit better than getting our cobalt from DRC on environmental and humanitarian grounds.
