I saw this field of sunflowers close to my house while out and about today, so I made a point of grabbing my #Polaroid and going back for some shots. A storm was rolling in so I had to be quick, but it actually made for some cool lighting! #photography #nature #sunflower #filmphotography #analog

Black-and-white street photo of a woman in traditional dress and a white head wrap playing a large drum with two sticks, mid-parade. Other drummers in matching white uniforms are visible behind and beside her, with multi-story apartment buildings, fire escapes, and Chinese-language shop signage in the background.

It's been far too long since I shot and processed a roll of black and white film. I'm always amused by these warning signs on our neighborhood walk route. Kodak Retina IIIC w/yellow filter. Bulk rolled Arista EDU Ultra 200 (Foma) at box. FX39II for 10 min at 20C. #BelieveInFilm

I've tried Ilford SFX200 shot at 200 and Rollei IR400 (same as Rollei 400S) shot at 200. Metering is through the filter with canon T90 or a Revni labs Lumo. You can trust the values for RGB but need +2 or +3 stops from the meter for IR (usually around 1/15 or 1/8 f8 on a sunny day). 3/3

I got to go see The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX today, I really enjoyed it, and I loved seeing projected film. It's been so long since I saw anything other than a digital projection. And I got the promotional film strip! I didn't think I would, but it's super cool! #believeinfilm

Last set of #trichrome from the photos I took yesterday. Despite the wind, it was a lot faster doing these holding the filters over the lens so I had less movement in the skies despite the wind. Also the plain #infrared scans beause I liked them. #believeinfilm

Photograph of a planter on a window sill of a brownstone in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn, the first of a diptych. The sun hits the scene at an acute angle, giving it an extremely dramatic appearance. The bed of the planter is covered in green leaves, while two small bright red flowers shoot upwards. The Internet tells me the plant is some kind of germanium hybrid. Of the two photos in the diptych, I much prefer this one, although the Internet disagrees with me.
The second in a diptych of photos of window sills of brownstones in Park Slope, Brooklyn. This window sill has no flowers on it. Instead, it has an abandoned mostly-empty cup of iced coffee sitting on it. Again, the sun is hitting the scene at a dramatic angle, and the window is quite dirty. The way the sun bounces off the dirt on the window gives the whole photo a dreamy, painterly appearance. People sometimes tell me my photos look like paintings. Eventually I noticed that when they do, it is always a picture of a dirty window in direct sunlight. I guess there is something about photos of dirty windows in sunlight that reminds people of paintings.

Even though I firmly believe that the first photo is objectively better than this one. This photo outperformed the first by a wide margin on social media. Maybe I don’t like this photo as much because I don’t drink coffee.

Mill's Boatyard, a pristine black wooden building with a tin roof and white window and door frames sits behind a couple of moored narrow boats, one of which has someone working on it.
A narrow boat catches the sun surrounded by water lilies on it's private mooring with well kept lawns and trees.
A neglected GRP boat sits with its outboard motor dismantled and it's door slightly ajar, shortly after taking this photo a cat jumped out of the cabin.
The bow of a traditionally painted narrow boat with it's ropes fills the foreground while on the other bank the trad stern of another is visible.

These were all shot on 35mm using a Pentax17 loaded with Kodak UltraMax 400, and a Ricoh 500G with CineStill 800T. Each brought its own character to the festival, from warm summer afternoons to the glow of the evening lights. #FilmPhotography #Pentax17 #Ricoh500G #IsleOfWight #IsleOfWightFestival

Not every festival photograph needs to be of the headline act. Sometimes it’s the details in between that tell the story — the people, the colour, the quieter moments and the atmosphere that make it memorable. #FilmPhotography #Pentax17 #Ricoh500G #IsleOfWight #IsleOfWightFestival
