The league is actively expanding. They’re courting investors and advertisers on the premise of the league as a worthy investment. At the same time, they’re telling the NWSLPA that it’s unreasonable to assume the next media deal can provide the revenue for Trinity Rodman’s proposed contract. 🤡

As things stand now, the NWSL isn’t fighting for Trinity Rodman. It’s fighting against her, and shadowboxing with its own potential in the process. A column, at @theathletic.com: www.nytimes.com/athletic/687...

This is playing out a lot like the NWSL final for many reasons, but especially since there’s one of these teams I would really like to win

Using what I can find online: NWSL sponsorship revenue in 2024 was 400 brands with an average spend of $170k = $68m - 25% = $51 m NWSL broadcast revenue = around $60m $101m - 90% =$10.1m $10.1m/14 = $720,000 Total cap should be around $4m in 2025.

Berman stated that league sponsorship revenue has increased by over 200% since 2022. That increases the cap. The Victory+ deal in 2026-27 is media money which also increases the cap. We should be able to estimate where the cap will be in 2029, but it helps to know where it was in 2025.

Every time Jordynn Dudley has the ball I stop breathing. Tonight we are enemies, but tomorrow I hope she signs with an NWSL team that I like

The NWSL says it wants to fight to keep Trinity Rodman in the league. But it risks losing big by trying to have it all, @meglinehan.com writes. www.nytimes.com/athletic/….

I would appreciate someone doing an actual scientific study on this, but in the meantime, a hypothesis: If you surveyed the general public and asked people to name a single NWSL player, the success rate would be higher in 2019 than 2025. Even though the league's overall popularity has grown.

real talk, given recent player movements, the nwsl should be ecstatic that rodman wants to stay. their attempted fumbling of this is reminiscent of an era i thought we’d left behind.

Has anyone asked this really simple NWSL question: What was the team salary cap in 2025? This is the salary cap *after* adding the media and sponsorship shareable revenues.

I don't believe in salary caps, but if NWSL is going to have one then ditching the hard cap for a soft cap/luxury tax continues to feel like the easiest way forward to balance growth and parity. You know, if parity is actually a concern and not an easy out from hard questions.

New e-mail from #GothamFC "Bringing this trophy back to New York and New Jersey for the second time in three years" They continue to push NJ to the back seat... and I fear they will phase it out completely at some point. They used to be "NJ/NY Gotham FC" (& NJ Sky Blue before that)... now New […]

this is precisely the core of it the whole reason to be in NWSL ownership is that you're betting on *growth* league revenue is already on a parabolic trajectory and it's reasonable to believe it can continue but if you want it to continue, you have to actually make some commitments to growth

Hey siri, whose to blame if the NWSL blocks the Washington Spirit from signing their top player to a contact consistent with the current CBA? Some mix of this group:

"...(offer) would make it unfeasible for the Spirit to field a team in 2028 and still be salary cap compliant. The NWSL might think the Spirit are making a nonsensical decision, and they may be right. It’s still the Spirit’s call to make." The NWSL is casting such pessimism about its own future.
