One of the rarest lichens on Earth, Erioderma pedicellatum (Boreal Felt Lichen). The two main populations that remain are near my home town in #Newfoundland, Canada. #lichen #fungi #fungifriends

My first edible wild mushroom: This impressive specimen of a Russula Xerampelina aka Shrimp Russula! 🦐 As one my guess, the most obvious tell is its distinctive shrimpy odour, but I also made sure its other identifiers were correct, such as lacking a peppery taste. #FungusAmongUs #FungiFriends

In the same area as the previously posted Fly Agaric, there were several of these similar poisonous Amanitas, specifically those of the Amanita Pantherina variety aka Panther Amanita. #FungusAmongUs #FungiFriends

I also came across these yellow mushrooms which had an obnoxious and unpleasant odour - like rotten turmeric to me. The pungent smell combined with their sulphur yellow appearance leads me to believe I likely encountered Tricholoma Sulphureum aka The Stinker! 😷 #FungusAmongUs #FungiFriends
Several sulphur yellow mushrooms upon the ground, likely members of Tricholoma Sulphureum.

Whilst out today with some friends I was excited to encounter this large specimen of the classic poisonous mushroom - Amanita Muscaria aka Fly Agaric; although I had read they grow locally, I’d never actually encountered any, until now! πŸ„ #FungusAmongUs #FungiFriends

Ghostly winter mushrooms. #fungifriends #fungi
Four pale, almost white Mycena mushrooms on dead wood. They look delicate and have ruffled bottoms like little lampshades. Behind them is some black spotty fungus as well.

And last but not least: these Xylaria hypoxylon, or candlestick/candlesnuff fungus or stag's horn fungus. They're very common, but I have never seen them guttating! Yes, those drops are not from the rain, that's guttation. Well, I think so anyway. Make me change my mind πŸ˜‰ #fungifriends
Stag's horn fungus, aka candlestick or candle snuff fungus (Xylaria hypoxylon) growing out of the side of a fallen and decomposing tree trunk. The fungus looks like grey or black sticks, forked and white at the end. Some have drops on them, possibly guttation (sweating).

On a moss-covered willow, I saw, in the fading light, these teeny-tiny (about 1 or 2 cm tall, with caps no more than 5 mm wide) Mycena pseudocorticola. I can imagine why some people call them fairy caps... #fungifriends

This strikingly bright fuchsia colour, white stem on green moss was today's stand-out find. It belongs to the Russula undulata or Russula atropurpurea, the purple brittlegill. And brittle it does appear, judging by that chunk taken out of the hood. #fungifriends

Now for the real colour. This common milk cap (Laccaria laccata) was of such a bright ochre colour I thought it could be a wax cap. I don't think it is, but I gladly stand corrected. Still nice to look at, though. #fungifriends
Orange/ochre coloured mushroom, shiny, rising out of the forest floor, which is covered in fallen oak leaves. species: Laccaria laccata, or common milk cap.

Still quite a few clouded agarics (Clitocybe nebularis) about, all in the latter stages of life, with some huge specimens out there, like 30 cm across! This one showing its underside, which I liked better. #fungifriends
Clouded agaric (Clitocybe nebularis) in a later stage of life, its hood all curled up to show its abundant gills. A creamy colour all over.
