Happy foraging! 🍄
At last we’ve finally got to see some Bird’s Nest Fungi! Been hoping to see it for so long and then suddenly, there it was at Westonbirt Arboretum on Wednesday! #FungiFriday#FungiFriends
The autumn colours in Wareham Forest look great, almost glowing in the low rays of the sun - less #fungi now but still some to be found.
An improbably delicate Bonnet surviving the frost and standing alone, and an army of Candlesnuff erupting from a stump were my highlights.
Happy #fungifriday 🍄
Finally #FungiFriday for #FungiFriends. I love alliteration - makes my brain feel funky. Anyway, here’s a pretty fruiting fungus. What you don’t see is the cliffside on the other side that would have given me a free falling fate forward with one misstep.
Looks like this birch polypore is bursting out of this birch tree 😱 #FungiFriday
Our Community Engagement Officer, Will, spotted birch polypore whilst out and about. As its name suggests, it is a bracket fungus that is only found on birch trees. 🍄
A colourful basket of Chroogomphus - Lactarius - Suillus and one wood blewit under the large milk cap. Picture taken a few years ago. Digging out of the snow again today!

These #fungi were growing around patches of weathered sheep droppings on grassland with distant pines. Thought they might be Fragrant Funnel, Clitocybe fragrans, or something similar as they did smell of aniseed. Icklingham Plains #Suffolk#Brecks#FungiFriday
🍄🤔
Some nice fungi in the woods at Pow Hill country park in County Durham yesterday, black turkey tail type, maybe smoky polypore, a mass of lovey candle snuff and an interesting flat brown bracket on a tree trunk #FungiFriday#FungiFriends
🔬 #imageoftheweek ¦ Aspergillus fumigatus colony cultured at 37C in Aspergillus Complete Medium (ACM).
This filamentous fungus is blue-green in appearance, with radial grooves and concentric rings reflecting its growth dynamics.

This #lichen similar to previous post. Very close to ‘pink earth lichen’ in looks ‘cept it’s pink apothecia is not on stalks. Very tiny. Very close. Deep within the cracks of a thick barked tree which slowly grows by our rugby fields #FungiFriends
