Think this is the Yellow Pansy butterfly, Junonia hierta. The male was displaying courtship behavior, repeatedly flying, fluttering, around a female. Mesmerizing to watch πŸ¦‹. #scicomm #entomology #insectsofinstagram #butterflies #insects #zambia #bugsky

1st check of the trap (VC80) produced an Early Moth on the house, 5 PBB's perched around the trap and a swarm of the same buzzing around low over the lawn. Who knows how many will find their way into the bucket? #teammoth

The first moth of the year tonight! I found a Pale Brindled Beauty on the brick wall behind the trap soon after switching on the actinic. Durham, VC66. #TeamMoth @teesbirds.bsky.social

A little something different for #SuperbOwl Sunday this year: an enormous banded owl-butterfly that graced me with its presence in Costa Rica last month. I'm a lover of insects with false eyes and this is one of the very best I've seen. #BugSky
A butterfly nearly the size of a human hand perches on a gnarly green stem. It has mottled brown wings with various spots that mimic owl eyes, and its wings have been tattered by bird attacks.

Another excellent smaller YouTube channel I just discovered. This one features interesting animals but especially bugs "let's bug out" it's run by theentomologybox.com which is all about pinning. #insects #ants #videos Here is a video on turtle ants. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9…

The MV drew in 4/2 last soir, with a hat-trick of Dark Chestnuts and what I'm tentatively calling an Acleris schalleriana (Viburnum Tortrix). Good to be moving forwards. #teammoth #norfolkmoths

First trap in two months - easing myself in gently with 21/5 inc. Pale & Small Brindled Beauty, Dotted Border, Early Moth and a gorgeous Oak Beauty. Bonus Tortricodes alternella (Spring Harbinger) in the woods #TeamMoth #Herefordshire
Oak Beauty one of my favourite spring moths - large feathery antenna and chocolate, cream and black mottled wings.SO24 North Herefordshire.
Tortricodes alternella (Spring Harbinger) I think? Micro with long mottled brown/grey wings. SO24 North Herefordshire.

I photographed some garden inhabitants yesterday, but the "Sauron's Eye I am not a Black Widow and That Thing Behind is a Rusted Hinge!" spood was in a badly accessible spot and hid later. #spider #slug #invertebrates
Steatoda bipunctata is a species of cob-web spider, as is written on the Wiki page. So, hopefully I didn't misidentified her. I have only this blurry picture with her dominant abdomen, from this top angle the lighter ornament on it looked like Sauron's Eye. She has a complicated cobweb in a cranny by the garage door hinges, that's what is behind her and can't get through some search engine, because it 'thinks' dirty. That cobweb fills the whole height of the doors, sticky drops glitter like tiny brilliants and she managed to capture a lot of animals, various kinds.
Revisiting the big Lady as she is sitting on the wall, touching her strings. The flashlight deepens her abdomen dips. I am glad she is with us, and she has been through the winter. She must have found a good safe living space around those white bricks.
And small slugs are slugging around. This one is turning around and away from the flashlight on a vertical ceramic pipe and is of the leopard-like pattern. Fuzzy dry leaves and fresh new grass are in the lower third of the image as it is photographed from the top.

Next #faebruary, jasmine moth. I remember reading that they're migratory moths and not always easy to find, so I guess that translated to shy and reclusive for this piece. #art #illustration #fantasy #fairies #insects #moth #jasminemoth #clipstudiopaint #jasmine #flowers

Put away your browns, fellow Red-fringed Emerald moths, it's summer & time to wear our emerald greens. Are you tired of eating oak leaves all day and want to make some caterpillars before summer fades? Find me at the end of an oak leaf. Let's talk #NonHumanNeighbours #teammoth #Insects #Bugs #Nature
