#teammoth trap not breaking any records, but a Spotted Flycatcher briefly perched was some consolation. I probably had one yesterday, but very briefly in flight. It could be the same one. If so three birds in a year may well be a record.

Surprised to find this Lappet in the trap yesterday. Looks like the latest Lappet on record for Hampshire and continuing a common theme for many moths recently in the North Hampshire trap. #TeamMoth

Hover flies are also very common in my yard in August. They are very well named since they can just float in one spot in the air, apparently effortlessly. #InverteFest 🌿 #BugSky

A photo of a purple flower, but it looks upside down, not the photo, the flower. There is a pale brown stalk from the bottom corner. There are five purple petals, wide and thick, pointing upwards. But where they are attached at the bottom, it looks like they are inside out, the petals seem to be curving down and out and up rather than directly up. It feels off, like darwin had done another bender. But it’s pretty and nice and a flower and there is a tiny green bug hanging on to the bottom so that it is hanging upside down. Too small to really make out details other than green body and some legs and anetnnae.

67/28 1NFY VC13 #TeamMoth Agriphila geniculea (Chevron Grass-moth) Also visiting a late Elephant HM and Burnished Brass f.aurea which I seem to see less often than f.tuti for some reason. Elephant HM; very late or second brood? Given that most things are early this year very late seems odd🤔

I almost forgot day 4 of #Invertefest But this tiny ladybird beetle was literally crawling down my neck so it was unignorable. I think it's in the genus Psyllobora. Apparently they feed on powdery mildew, in which case it should be right at home in my garden! Now I need one that eats whiteflies.
A very smol cream beetle with black blotches.

Parent Bug (Elasmucha grisea) at Wellow, near #Bath. They are often accompanied by dozens of nymphs, but I only found adults on this occasion. They exhibit prolonged parental care of their young & employ a variety of defensive tactics to keep them safe from predators. #Nature #Wildlife #Insect

Banstead, Surrey: 3 Vestal and 2 Small Mottled Willow were the migrant highlights to the MV. For context, yesterday saw the eighth Vestal recorded here since 1987. Three this morning only goes to underline how bonkers this summer has been. All time SMW total now 99 (two before this year!) #TeamMoth

2 of the 4 Vestals in the trap this morning after what started as a chilly, clear night. The trap was rammed. Dewick's Plusia, Clancy's Rustic and Rusty Dot Pearl among the highlights. Pale Mottled Willows and Straw Underwings were well represented, VC17 Meanwhile, I'm going back to bed 😴 #teammoth

Not many moth species last night in our garden in North Worcestershire, but amongst the Vine’s, Flounced and Square spot Rustics lurked this lovely Vestal. A first for the garden. Seems to be a good year for them, seeing a quite a few reported on #teammoth

Only did the MV last night as not got much time today but great start to the traps with an Olive-tree Pearl Palpita Vitrealis NFY and a much wanted NFG Small Ranunculus. I have been seeing them on #teammoth and hoping one would grace my garden 😁
