Social media was sold to us as a way to maintain current and reconstitute old friendships, but it got us so hooked on winning the favorability of people outside of our irl spaces. SM wants you to care more about the likes of someone 500 kms away more than you care about your neighbour nextdoor.

about 2 hours agoKeeping track of neighborhood meetings in JC is exhausting. Some advertise only by car windshield fliers, some by Facebook, or instagram, or RedNote (Chinese TikTok), or email lists, or Nextdoor.
All that's missing is smoke signals, telegraph, and messenger pigeons.

-weed eat the garden
-hammer big iron poles into the ground
-string wire fence on the poles
-put a canvas cover on the poles
-cement some wood posts into the ground
All to prevent my dogs and the nextdoor dogs from starting trouble every time they see each other.

I just know my nextdoor neighbors secretly hate me because their lawn is always full maintained and free of a single stray leaf meanwhile I'm like ~leaves are homes for the buggies and birdies and organic material for my gardens lalala~ so I never rake up/remove anything 😅
