Side note - it’s interesting to me how different AI services describe the same image. I compare them with what I come up with as alt text. Some are too terse, others embellish with lots of detail, a few fails.

Everything's easy if somebody else has to do it.
I'm disabled myself so I have some sympathy. At the same time, I keep having to rewrite alt text every time I post the same image. If Bluesky would save it in memes I use often, that'd help.
Many of us use voice to text or type 1 letter at a time.

Btw in case it isn't obvious, I am setting up a pipeline in fedica that automatically posts a couple of my favorite shop items a day. I am terrible at remembering to do this, but fedica lets me preload alt text which is often one of my main hurdles, so yay. Enjoy the posts!

I try to add alt text to all my strips, so feel free to check them out and pillage whatever ideas come from it.
I will say that even doing it for a while, I still sometimes find it hard discribing visual gags in a way to not ruin the punchline. And the character limit doesn't help either, but I try.

I do color my alt text with subjective language, but if I say "A happy orange tabby" that's not as precise as "An orange tabby, loafing comfortably in the sun, with his eyes half closed and his tail loosely curled. He looks like he's smiling." It's not the same skillset, but it's similar. :)
