I'm an adoptee and pro abortion. Can't tell you how many times I've heard "well, what if you'd been aborted?" As if what I want mattered in that moment. My mom didn't have a choice. She was forced to have me and forced to give me away. It wrecked her. Wrecked me. I don't want that for anyone else. ๐ฅ

This is one of the first stories I've read that dispensed with the propaganda of #Adoption as being a beloved institution and one that confronted the horrific facts how adoptees/foster kids are repeatedly abused (including sexuallY) and killed because of failures by unaccountable state agencies.

adoptee here. the idea that coercion has been eliminated from adoption is simply false, as adoptees and birthparents can tell you, and as @gretchensisson.bsky.social has documented. Though single parenthood may have lost much of its social stigma, poverty remains the root cause of relinquishment.

I left uni with an A-, which for me was unbelievable! But I did become a good essay #writer, which necessarily included research and note taking. Turns out, writing one's #adoption #memoir requires the same #reading and note taking, not just #writing memories. I must "research" my life.
