๐ŸฅšRemarkable to me how matter-of-factly this BBC report on forced adoption discusses Chileโ€™s past policy of solving poverty by stealing kids from poor families and selling them abroad. Pretty sure this is still news to many white adoptive US parents. #adopteeskye ๐Ÿงต youtube.com/watch?v=Nliv...

You are not alone. You are not forgotten. Human rights are a legacy every generation must preserve and protect for those who come after us. #adoption #adopteevoices ๐Ÿฅš
A beautiful drawing of an adult adoptee mother, explaining the impact of adoption to her own child. "...if you have kids someday, they too might have questions about where they come from. This doesn't end with just you and me."
From cartoonist @chung.woolrim: Today, my friend and fellow Korean adoptee, @oh_myo_kim, shared with me that someone told her her activism takes up too much of her time, time that should be spent with her children, and that this supposedly makes her a bad mother. My response to her was this: I believe it's good for our kids to see us fight for our rights. To see that their mothers refuse to stay silent after learning that their human rights were violated when they were selected for adoption. To witness us taking action, working hard for what we believe in, and doing everything we can to demand truth and justice.
At some point in the future - hopefully - our children will come to understand that this fight also includes them. Because when our rights are denied, so are theirs. When we're not allowed to access our records or the stories of our beginnings, neither are they. Adoption doesn't just affect the adoptee, or the first and extended family. It also affects future generations.

In fact, more and more descendants of adoptees are not only joining the fight, they're often leading it, both in solidarity and through their own causes. So, to the person who questioned my friend, I would ask: what kind of role models would we be for our children if we DIDN'T stand up for ourselves, and for them?

๐Ÿ˜ญ Making Mandu-pi is hard. I finally figured out the technique, but sometimes things like this make me miss my birth family๐Ÿฅš. I kinda feel like it's a skill they would have taught me.

I'm an adoptee and pro abortion. Can't tell you how many times I've heard "well, what if you'd been aborted?" As if what I want mattered in that moment. My mom didn't have a choice. She was forced to have me and forced to give me away. It wrecked her. Wrecked me. I don't want that for anyone else. ๐Ÿฅš

I follow r/CemeteryPorn and often see some remarkable burial sites and headstones. But this one stuck out. Look at what's written. Erased through to death. Susan, our Adopted and Redeemed Apache If anyone needs proof #adoption is racist colonialism, here ya go: ๐Ÿฅš

This is one of the first stories I've read that dispensed with the propaganda of #Adoption as being a beloved institution and one that confronted the horrific facts how adoptees/foster kids are repeatedly abused (including sexuallY) and killed because of failures by unaccountable state agencies.

the question โ€œwhy canโ€™t adoptees annul their adoptions?โ€ is as taboo as it is unanswerable. itโ€™s taboo *because* it is unanswerable. ๐Ÿฅš

As an adoptee, immigrant, Black in the US, and federal employee, I'm feeling so burned out and discouraged. I'm so looking forward to next week's BIPOC Adoptee Conference in Portland! It's just nice to have something to look forward to. Who else will be there? ๐Ÿฅš #TransnationalAdoptees #BIPOCAdoptees

I left uni with an A-, which for me was unbelievable! But I did become a good essay #writer, which necessarily included research and note taking. Turns out, writing one's #adoption #memoir requires the same #reading and note taking, not just #writing memories. I must "research" my life. ๐Ÿฅš ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ“š โœ๏ธ

Flashback โšก : This is how I remember MacArthur Park. In this photo I'm about 3 years old, feeding pigeons there with my dad* in 1953. * My adoptive dad. ๐Ÿฅš
This is a black-and-white photo of me at about 3 years old, feeding pigeons in MacArthur Park, Los Angeles, with my dad* in 1953. Named for General Douglas MacArthur after the war, it was called Westlake Park before the war.

There is a sign behind us that says "No Swimming Allowed in Lake." This is how I remember MacArthur Park.

whenever anyone talks about secrecy and concealment of identity in #adoption as protecting a birthparentโ€™s โ€œprivacy,โ€ remember this: Privacy entitles you to withhold from me facts about you, but not facts about *me.* Privacy does not entitle *anyone* to keep *my identity* a secret from me.
